LITHIUM MANGANESE OXIDE SPINEL SORBENT COMPOUNDS AND METHODS OF SYNTHESIS
Sorbent compounds useful in the extraction of lithium from liquid sources such as brines (naturally occurring and synthesized), leachate solutions from the leaching of minerals or recycled materials, and others are described. The sorbent compounds are characterized by a larger median particle size and coarser particle size distribution that improves commercial synthesis and performance of the sorbent compounds.
Contaminant removal from water using polyelectrolyte coated fly ash
A polyelectrolyte coated fly ash is described with a method of making and a method of using for the adsorption of a contaminant from a solution. The polyelectrolyte coated fly ash may be made by treating the oil fly ash with acid, and then contacting the product with a positive polyelectrolyte to create a first polyelectrolyte layer, and then with a negative polyelectrolyte to create a negative polyelectrolyte layer. The resulting polyelectrolyte coated fly ash quickly adsorbs contaminants from solution, and may be cleaned and reused.
AMMONIA-BASED MULTI-ZONE DOUBLE-LOOP PROCESS FOR ULTRALOW EMISSION OF MULTI-POLLUTANT
An ammonia-based multi-zone double-loop process for ultra-low emission of multi-pollutant. From an absorption tower inlet, the flue gas successively passes through cooling concentration crystallization, sulfur oxide absorption, water washing and purifying and dust and mist removing zones, which are separated by gas permeable liquid collecting plates, forming clean flue gas and discharged from an outlet. The cooling concentration crystallization zone, the sulfur oxide absorption zone, and the water washing and purifying zone are respectively provided with a plurality of sprayers, and respectively use a concentration liquid, an absorption liquid, and a water washing liquid as spraying liquids. The absorption, concentration and water washing liquids, after converging respectively, into absorption, concentration crystallization and water washing circulation tanks, the absorption, concentration and water washing liquids, respectively, are sprayed in a circulating manner through absorption, concentration and water washing pumps.
Desulfurizing agent for gases and gas desulfurization method
Provided are a high-performance desulfurizing agent for gases and a gas desulfurization method that provide a high desulfurization performance even at low temperatures and can maintain its desulfurization performance for a long period of time. The desulfurizing agent is characterized in that it includes a zinc oxide, an aluminum oxide and copper, the agent further including nickel by from 1.0 mass % to 10 mass % and ruthenium by from 0.1 mass % to 1.0 mass %. The gas desulfurization method is characterized in that the desulfurizing agent is brought into contact with the gas in the coexistent of hydrogen, thus decomposing/removing sulfur compound contained in the gas.
METHODS FOR CARBON DIOXIDE CAPTURE
The subject invention provides systems and methods for capturing carbon dioxide in a cyclic process of mechano-chemical reactions. The subject invention also provides systems and methods for synthesizing siderite, by means of mechano-chemical reactions, using mill rotation. Siderite acts as an efficient reversible sorbent and can be decomposed, generating magnetite, carbon and/or metallic iron as well as pure carbon dioxide. Said systems and methods employing carbon dioxide capture/release reactions in the carbonation-calcination cycles are suitable for using in any iron, steel and non-steel industries to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
Iron-selenide-oxide sorbent composition for removing mercury (Hg) vapor from a gaseous stream; methods of use and methods of manufacture
A powdered Iron-Selenide-Oxide sorbent composition, a method of using the sorbent, and a method for producing the sorbent is disclosed for removing mercury vapor from a gaseous stream. The exact ratios of Fe to Se are varied. The method for producing the sorbent comprises the steps of: preparing a base ferrous or ferric oxide (FeO.sub.x) media, conditioning the FeO.sub.x media with a slurry of ferrous selenite (FeSeO.sub.3)/ferrous selenate (FeSeO.sub.4), reducing the FeSeO.sub.3/FeSeO.sub.4 mixture by an elemental iron (Fe.sup.0) powder to incorporate selenide into the slurry, and dewatering and oxidizing the slurry. The sorbent can be used alone (or in combination with a powdered activated carbon material or an inert powdered material) by direct injection into the Hg-containing gas stream, by coating of a filter fabric used in bag house with the sorbent, or by using the sorbent in a packed bed gas stream filtration system.
Process and apparatus for purification of water
The present disclosure relates to a process for the purification of water. The process includes leading water laden with microorganisms and arsenic through an arsenic adsorption media followed by treating the resultant arsenic deficient water with a disinfectant releasing system to obtain water deficient of arsenic and viable microorganisms. The present disclosure also provides an apparatus for the purification of water using the afore-stated process.
Asian Carp Mitigation
A method of mitigating the environmental impact of invasive Asian carp is provided. The method generally involves producing a metal sorbent from the defleshed bones of a plurality of Asian carp harvested from a body of water in which the carp is invasive, and/or treating a metal contaminated material with the metal sorbent, so as to support harvesting of the invasive Asian carp from the body of water.
Thermal management system with sublimator and adsorbent bed
A thermal management system includes a sublimator that has a porous plate, a water feed line connected with the sublimator for delivering feed water to the porous plate, and an adsorbent bed in the water feed line. The sublimator is operable to freeze and sublime the feed water using the porous plate. The adsorbent bed is configured to substantially remove organic compounds from the feed water.
Modular System and Method for Mercury Speciation in a Fluid Sample
Modular Hg analysis devices and methods are described for use in mercury speciation protocols. Modules can be selected and removably connected to one another to specifically target mercury species in a sample so as to accurately determine the presence or quantity of different mercury species in a fluid sample. Modules can include reductants for reducing inorganic mercury to form elemental mercury and amalgamation agents to capture the elemental mercury. Modules can include filters for capture of particulates as well as capture agents, e.g., solid phase extraction agents, for capture of organic mercury species.
