Optical instrument comprising multi-notch beam splitter
An instrument is provided that can monitor nucleic acid sequence amplification reactions, for example, PCR amplification of DNA and DNA fragments. The instrument includes a multi-notch filter disposed along one or both of an excitation beam path and an emission beam path. Methods are also provided for monitoring nucleic acid sequence amplifications using an instrument that includes a multi-notch filter disposed along a beam path.
Apparatus for holding down respective membrane elements in respective wells of a multiwell plate
An apparatus is provided for holding down membrane elements in respective wells of a multiwell plate, which has, at its top side, respective openings of the respective wells. The apparatus has, at its upper region, a support structure having respective openings, and respective corresponding retention elements which extend downwards from the respective openings of the support structure, so that respective retention elements protrude into respective wells when the support structure has been placed onto the top side of the multiwell plate. A retention element has multiple webs which extend downwards from the support structure and the ends of which are connected to one another at a bottom side of the apparatus by means of a connection element. Furthermore, a retention element has multiple openings between the webs, which openings extend continuously from the support structure right up to the connection element and which openings furthermore extend continuously from the top side of the multiwell plate right up to the connection element when the support structure has been placed onto the top side of the multiwell plate.
SAMPLE COLLECTION TRAY FOR MULTI-WELL PLATES
The invention is a device for quantitatively collecting pooled samples from multiwell plates.
System and method with reflective fiducials for locating or registering locations receiving biological samples in successive cycles of fluorescent imaging
Fiducial markers are provided on patterned arrays of the type that may be used for molecular analysis, such as sequencing. The fiducial markers may have configurations that enhance their detection in image or detection data, that facilitate or improve processing, that provide encoding of useful information, and so forth. Examples of the fiducial markers may include features and materials that are provided on or in the support of a patterned array and that return at least a portion of incident light by reflection. The fiducial markers may form gratings or other encoding configurations that assist in image processing, alignment, or other aspects of processing of the patterned array.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING PRESENCE AND/OR CHARACTERISTICS OF TARGET ANALYTES IN A SAMPLE
A cartridge for providing a target analyte for detection is described. One such exemplar cartridge includes a base portion including: (1) a receiving area disposed at or near a center region of the base portion; (2) multiple reaction wells disposed outside the center region or radially disposed at or near a perimeter of the base portion; and (3) multiple connecting tracks that substantially linearly extend from a region at or proximate to the receiving area to the multiple reaction wells and designed to convey a sample including the target analyte from the receiving area to the multiple reaction wells, each of which are configured to transform the sample to a detectable sample. Systems and methods of reacting and detecting the sample including the target analyte are also described.
Microfluidic Device, System, and Method for the Study of Organisms
The invention discloses a microfluidic device for the culture, selection and/or analysis of sample organisms such as nematodes, as well as for other biological entities such as for instance animal embryos. The device features reservoirs, culture chambers and smart filtering systems allowing for the selection of specific populations/specimens of sample organisms, thus permitting long-term cultures thereof as well as phenotypic/behavioural analyses. Systems and methods for using the microfluidic device are within the present disclosure as well.
HIGH DENSITY DEPOSITION FOR ARRAY PRODUCTION
Disclosed herein are methods for producing high density cellular arrays. In some embodiments, the methods comprise: providing a sample comprising a plurality of cells; and introducing the plurality of cells in the sample into microwells of a microwell array to produce a cellular array, wherein the microwell array comprises 500 or more microwells per inch.sup.2, and wherein 25% or more of the microwells of the cellular array comprise a single cell. The disclosed methods can be used for producing a high density synthetic particle array and a high density reagent array.
Auxiliary Electrodes and Methods for Using and Manufacturing the Same
An electrochemical cell includes a plurality of working electrode zones disposed, and defining a pattern, on a surface of the cell and at least one auxiliary electrode disposed on the surface. The auxiliary electrode may have a defined interfacial potential.
HIGH RESOLUTION SYSTEMS, KITS, APPARATUS, AND METHODS USING LATERAL FLOW FOR HIGH THROUGHPUT MICROBIOLOGY APPLICATIONS
A method for providing a lateral flow of liquid across a plurality of microwells of a microfabricated device. The microwells of the microfabricated device are covered by a membrane which includes a first portion disposed on one side of at least one microwell and a second portion on the other side of the at least one microwell. The first portion of the membrane is contacted with a liquid absorbable by the membrane such that the liquid is wicked by the membrane and laterally flows from the first portion to the second portion and across the at least one microwell. At least a portion of the liquid enters the at least one microwell.
MEANS FOR IMPROVED LIQUID HANDLING IN A MICROPLATE
The present invention relates to a means for improving fluid exchange across a microplate, comprising a microplate which comprises one or more internal modifications which aid the introduction and removal of fluids from the wells of the plate and minimize the damage caused to biological matter located therein upon introduction or removal of a pipette tip and/or fluids, and/or a means for inclining the microplate at an angle from the horizontal and retaining the microplate in the inclined position, to facilitate fluid introduction and aspiration from the wells of the microplate.
