Unitary biochip providing sample-in to results-out processing and methods of manufacture
A biochip for the integration of all steps in a complex process from the insertion of a sample to the generation of a result, performed without operator intervention includes microfluidic and macrofluidic features that are acted on by instrument subsystems in a series of scripted processing steps. Methods for fabricating these complex biochips of high feature density by injection molding are also provided.
Filter film and use thereof
A filter film includes a through-hole and a recessed portion having a size capable of capturing one particle, in which the recessed portion is open to one face of the filter film, the through-hole in the one face has a shape or a size such that the one particle is not capable of passing through the through-hole, and the through-hole and the recessed portion are disposed close to each other.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR LOADING REAGENT-CONTAINING MICROFLUIDIC CHIPS
A microfluidic device can include a microfluidic circuit that comprises an inlet port, a reagent-containing chamber configured to receive fluid from the inlet port, a non-aqueous-liquid-containing reservoir configured to receive liquid from the chamber, and a droplet-generating region configured to receive and produce droplets of liquid from the reservoir. The circuit can also include first and second valves or frangible members. The first valve or frangible member can have closed position in which fluid is prevented from entering or exiting the chamber therethrough and an open position in which fluid is permitted to enter or exit the chamber therethrough. The second valve or frangible member can have a closed position in which fluid is prevented from flowing between the chamber and the reservoir therethrough and an open position in which fluid is permitted to flow between the chamber and the reservoir therethrough.
SPERM SORTING DEVICE AND METHOD
A sperm sorting device suitable for selectively isolating motile sperms from a semen specimen includes a base and a sorting unit. The base comprises a central protruding block including a truncated cone-shaped surface, a bottom wall that surrounds the central protruding block, and an intermediate ring. The intermediate ring connects to the bottom wall via an inner wall surface. The sorting unit includes a sorting ring and a protruding ring. The sorting ring includes a central hole for a sorting filter that filters the semen specimen and is beveled at an angle that increases a permeable surface of the sorting filter. The protruding ring connects to the sorting ring via an inner sleeve surface. The sperm sorting device enhances sperm sorting quality by allowing the motile sperms to swim upward through the first sorting filter naturally.
FLUID HANDLING SYSTEM
A fluid handling system includes a fluid handling device including an opening for introducing a fluid or discharging the fluid; a tube including a flange, where one end of the tube is for connection to the opening, and the other end of the tube is for connection to an introduction device for supplying the fluid or to a discharge device for discharging the fluid; a support member including a first through hole into which the tube is inserted, and movably supporting the tube; and a first elastic member including a second through hole into which the tube is inserted, and holding a part of the tube while the first elastic member is in contact with the flange and the fluid handling device or the support member.
MICROFLUIDIC DEVICE WITH RESERVOIR INTERFACE
A microfluidic assembly may include a microfluidic chip operably coupled to a device source pressure port and a device relief pressure port, first and second input reservoirs, an output reservoir, and a reservoir interface. The microfluidic chip may include a microfluidic circuit configured to support a fluid flow that includes a gas flow and a liquid flow within the microfluidic circuit. The reservoir interface may be configured to operably couple the first and second input reservoirs to the microfluidic circuit. The device source pressure port may be configured to receive a source pressure to generate the fluid flow through the microfluidic circuit and cause a mixing of liquids to form an output liquid for delivery to the output reservoir via the fluid flow. The first liquid, the second liquid, and the output liquid need not contact the device source pressure port or the device relief pressure port during the mixing.
Blood metering device with desiccant and support for storage media and inlay with flange
A blood sample collection and/or storage device includes a two-piece housing that encompasses a port at which a fingertip blood sample is collected at a sample port. After the sample is taken, the two-piece housing is moved to a closed position deposit the sample onto a storage membrane Embodiments of the device include a one or more capillaries with movable plungers that dispense fluid from the sample port onto the membrane as the housing is closed. A desiccant, which may be held in place by a backbone structure within the housing, is positioned adjacent the membrane. The housing may also be opened to access the stored sample for further processing.
Biomolecule diagnostic systems
Diagnostic systems for sensing biological molecules are disclosed. The diagnostic systems include a fluid control delivery and control system that can be coupled to a diagnostic cartridge that includes a microfluidic device and integrated sensing electronics. The diagnostic systems can be used to sequence biological molecules.
DEVICE AND METHODS FOR ISOLATING EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX BODIES
Devices, methods and systems are provided for isolating extracellular matrix bodies. More particularly, this invention discloses devices, methods and systems for isolating extracellular matrix bodies from a biological sample for use in diagnosis and prognosis of a subject. A device may have restriction channels for isolating extracellular matrix bodies and uniform flow channels for precise pressure measurements.
FLOW CELL AND BIOCHEMICAL SUBSTANCE REACTION DEVICE USING THE FLOW CELL
A flow cell includes a flow cell body. The flow cell body includes a frame and a fluid chamber defined in the flow cell body. The fluid chamber includes a reaction region allowing a fluid flow. A liquid inlet, a liquid outlet, and two exhaust holes connected to the fluid chamber are in the frame. Fluid into the liquid inlet flows through the reaction region in the fluid chamber and flows out through the liquid outlet. The exhaust holes discharge gas generated in the fluid chamber during the fluid flow. A flow cell with integral sealing rings and a biochemical substance reaction device are also disclosed.
