A health care delivery and monitoring system including a robotic figurine with a furry layer, having components and a mechanism that facilitates robotic motion and communication. The components includes a speaker, a motor assembly, a battery, control circuitry, a video camera, speech generator, a communication interface, a network interface and a speech detector operatively connected with each other. The video camera and the wearable device cooperate to enable the robotic figurine to observe the user. The system leverages data from the various digital devices of the patients and other 3.sup.rd party syndicated sources to derive insights and enable the delivery of personalized care to the patients. The network interface being connected via a network to a computer, which utilizes the derived insights to provide instructions to the figurine including gesture and voice commands that enable effective care delivery.

Interactive device with advancing levels of communication capability

A cognitive system is provided which includes an interactive device, such as a toy, for communicating with a user. The cognitive system includes different levels of communication capability for communicating with the user via the interactive device. The system adjusts from one level of communication capability to another level of communication capability of the different levels of communication capability based on occurrence of one or more specified conditions of user communication with the interactive device. For instance, the different levels of communication capability may include multiple levels of language capabilities, and the one or more specified conditions may include one or more language-based interaction conditions, time-based interaction conditions, or physical-based interaction conditions of the user with the interactive device.

The disclosed embodiments provide an apparatus and methods for assisting individuals in controlling respiratory rates. For example, a respiratory regulation apparatus is provided in the form of a plush animal toy that operates components to simulate the breathing rate of anxious individuals. The apparatus may include actuators that are controlled by a slotted cam that is dynamically rotated at varying speeds in a determined rotational direction. The actuators move inward and outward in relative directions to move a torso of the plush animal toy to simulate breathing. In certain aspects, actuators may expand outward while at the same time another actuator contracts inward to cause the torso to simulate realistic breathing movements. A processor controls the speed of the cam such that the simulated breathing of the animal toy apparatus can be reduced at a controlled rate to assist an individual in reducing their breathing rate to a calmer state.

The head is rotatable such that a selected one of the faces is aligned with the body of the doll. An audio unit is coupled to the doll and the audio unit stores a plurality of spoken words in a plurality of different languages. The audio unit emits the spoken words in a language corresponding to the ethnicity of the selected face on the head. In this way the audio unit teaches a user about the language spoken by the ethnicity on the selected face.

Also described are two embodiments of the physical portion of the invention that can be used for the demonstration: first, an item in the form of a cuboid with animatronic eyes affixed to one side that most purely reflects the principles behind the treatment, and second, another in the form of a stuffed toy that is perhaps more practical.
