Filtration system for preparation of fluids for medical applications
A system that fills multiple containers includes a filter with an inlet port and multiple outlet ports. The outlet ports are pre-attached to containers by respective filling lines of each container. Each container has an interior and each of the respective filling lines is connected to a respective container interior. All of the respective filling lines are sealed to the outlet ports and the containers such that the container interiors are isolated from an external environment except the inlet port, via the filter, forming a combined interior volume which is sterile. The system can produce batches of multiple sterile containers with sterile medicament in the containers.
Systems and methods for handling microfluidic droplets
The invention generally relates to assemblies for displacing droplets from a vessel that facilitate the collection and transfer of the droplets while minimizing sample loss. In certain aspects, the assembly includes at least one droplet formation module, in which the module is configured to form droplets surrounded by an immiscible fluid. The assembly also includes at least one chamber including an outlet, in which the chamber is configured to receive droplets and an immiscible fluid, and in which the outlet is configured to receive substantially only droplets. The assembly further includes a channel, configured such that the droplet formation module and the chamber are in fluid communication with each other via the channel. In other aspects, the assembly includes a plurality of hollow members, in which the hollow members are channels and in which the members are configured to interact with a vessel.
ENZYME QUANTIFICATION
The invention generally relates to methods for quantifying an amount of enzyme molecules. Systems and methods of the invention are provided for measuring an amount of target by forming a plurality of fluid partitions, a subset of which include the target, performing an enzyme-catalyzed reaction in the subset, and detecting the number of partitions in the subset. The amount of target can be determined based on the detected number.
Processing Cartridge and Method for Detecting a Pathogen in a Sample
In one embodiment, a multiplex fluid processing cartridge includes a sample well, a deformable fluid chamber, a mixing well with a mixer disposed therein, a lysis chamber including a lysis mixer, an electrowetting grid for microdroplet manipulation, and electrosensor arrays configured to detect analytes of interest. An instrument for processing the cartridge is configured to receive the cartridge and to selectively apply thermal energy, magnetic force, and electrical connections to one or more discrete locations on the cartridge and is further configured to compress the deformable chamber(s) in a specified sequence.
Method and device for detecting bacteria and determining the concentration thereof in a liquid sample
A method for detecting bacteria and determining the concentration thereof in a liquid sample includes the steps of taking an optical section through a container holding a volume of the liquid sample at a predetermined field of view and at a predetermined focal plane depth or angle and after a period of time has elapsed to allow non-bacteria in the sample to settle to the bottom of the container. Since bacteria auto arranges in the liquid sample, forming a lattice-like grid pattern, an optical section through the volume of auto-arranged bacteria may be used to measure the quantity of bacteria residing in that section. A container for holding the liquid sample has particular structure which aids in separating the non-bacteria from the bacteria.
Apparatus for Improved Disease Detection
The invention relates to apparatus for detecting a disease in a biological subject, which comprises a delivery system and at least two sub-equipment units which are combined or integrated in the apparatus, wherein the delivery system is capable of delivering the biological subject to at least one of the sub-equipment units and each sub-equipment unit is capable of detecting at least one property of the biological subject. Also related to the invention are methods for detecting a disease with the apparatus.
Biological analysis apparatus
The present invention relates to biological sensing apparatus (12) which is configured to sense particles comprised in fluent material. The biological sensing apparatus (12) comprises particle sensing apparatus (32) comprised in an integrated circuit formed by a semiconductor fabrication process, the particle sensing apparatus being configured to sense an electrical property. The biological sensing apparatus further comprises a flow arrangement 30 configured to contain and provide for flow of fluent material. The particle sensing apparatus (32) is disposed relative to the flow arrangement (30) such that the particle sensing apparatus is operative to sense an electrical property of particles comprised in the fluent material as the fluent material flows through the flow arrangement.
Biological fluids concentration assembly
A biological fluids concentration device, including a tube-in-tube assembly, is disclosed. The tube-in-tube assembly receives biologic fluids and may then be placed in the bucket of a centrifuge and spun to separate out the components of the biological fluid by their various densities. For example, whole blood may be centrifuged in the tube-in-tube assembly for separating into plasma, red blood cell component, and a buffy coat. A piston slideably and sealingly engages an inner tube of the tube-in-tube assembly, the inner tube fitting within an outer tube. A lid is designed to engage the top of the outer tube, which lid has an opening therein for receipt of a plunger. The plunger is adapted to move up and down with respect to the lid and the tubes, so as to sealingly, in a down position, and unsealingly, in an open position, engage the top of the inner tube of the tube-in-tube assembly.
MICROREACTOR ARRAY PLATFORM
A microreactor array platform and method for sealing a reagent in microreactors of an array of microreactors are provided. The microreactor array platform includes an array of microreactors, and a sealing film having a first surface and an opposite second surface, the sealing film configured to movably seal the array of microreactors. The microreactor array platform also includes an injector for delivering a reagent into the array of microreactors via a fluid path between the array and the second surface of the sealing film, and an applicator for directing a sealing liquid against the first surface of the sealing film. The microreactor array platform further includes a system for creating a pressure differential between the reagent in the injector and a space between the array of microreactors and the second surface of the sealing film.
