DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DETECTING NUCLEIC ACIDS IN BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES
A device for detecting nucleic acids in a biological sample has a sample port, a lysis station and a sample conduit configured to mix a sample and lysis agent to form a sample-lysis mixture, pass the sample-lysis mixture across a solid-state membrane to capture nucleic acids in the biological sample therein, and receive the remainder of the sample-lysis mixture in a waste chamber. The wash station is configured to introduce the wash solution following the sample-lysis mixture, pass the wash solution across the solid-state membrane to purify nucleic acids captured therein, and receive the wash solution from the solid-state membrane in the waste chamber. The elution station is configured to pass the eluent across the solid-state membrane, elute captured nucleic acids from the solid-state membrane, and pass the captured nucleic acids into one or more reaction chambers for amplifying and detecting the captured nucleic acids.
CHIP FOR BIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS, SYSTEM FOR BIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS, AND MANUFACTURING METHOD OF THE CHIP
A chip for biochemical reactions comprising: a first body including a plurality of first through openings arranged according to an arrangement pattern; a second body, having a hydrophilic surface, coupled to the first body on the hydrophilic surface; and an intermediate layer, which extends over the hydrophilic surface and forms a coupling interface between the first and the second bodies. The intermediate layer is of hydrophobic material, extends continuously over the hydrophilic surface, and has a plurality of second through openings through which respective regions of the hydrophilic surface are exposed. The hydrophilic regions may be functionalized for carrying out a PCR.

The present disclosure relates to devices and systems for separating motile pathogenic bacterial cells from samples. The disclosure also provides for methods of determining whether a sample is contaminated by pathogenic bacteria. The devices and systems disclosed herein are useful for screening water sources, environmental testing sites, food sources, and bodily fluids for the presence, absence, or quantity of bacterial cells in a sample representative of the screened sources.
Lateral flow assay device
Lateral flow devices, methods and kits for performing lateral flow assays are provided.
Microfluidic device
A microfluidic device comprises: a sensor provided in a sensing chamber; a liquid inlet and liquid outlet connecting to the sensor chamber for respectively passing liquid into and out of the sensing chamber and; a sample input port in fluid communication with the liquid inlet; a liquid collection channel downstream of the sensing chamber outlet; a flow path interruption between the liquid outlet and the liquid collection channel, preventing liquid from flowing into the liquid collection channel from upstream; a buffer liquid filling from the sample input port to the sensing chamber, and filling the sensing chamber and filing from the liquid outlet to the flow path interruption; an activation system operable to complete the flow path between the liquid outlet and the liquid collection channel such that the sensor remains unexposed to gas or a gas/liquid interface.
MICROFLUIDIC DEVICES CONTAINING REVERSIBLY PINNED DROPLET SAMPLES AND METHODS
A microfluidic device comprising: (a) a plate comprising a substrate, a plurality of electrodes, and a first layer of hydrophobic material applied over the plurality of electrodes; (b) a processing unit operably programmed to perform a method of pinning an aqueous droplet within the microfluidic device; and (c) a controller operably connected to a power source, the processing unit, and the plurality of electrodes. The method of pinning an aqueous droplet comprises: applying an electric field of a first polarity to an aqueous droplet located on the surface of the layer of hydrophobic material and having a first contact angle, to cause the droplet to maintain a second contact angle in the absence of the electric field, wherein the aqueous droplet contains a surfactant and the second contact angle is less than the first contact angle.
Microfluidic devices and observation methods
A microfluidic device includes a substrate having an electromagnetic wave transmission property, a lid member facing the substrate and being separated from the substrate such that a flow channel is formed between the substrate and the lid member, a light absorption layer which is placed in the flow channel and absorbs an electromagnetic wave, and a microwell array formed on the substrate and having plural microwells that are open to the flow channel to receive a target of analysis.
DROPLET INTERFACES IN ELECTRO-WETTING DEVICES
Droplet interfaces are formed between droplets in an electro-wetting device comprising an array of actuation electrodes. Actuation signals are applied to selected actuation electrodes to place the droplets into an energised state in which the shape of the droplets is modified compared to a shape of the droplets in a lower energy state and to bring the two droplets into proximity. The actuation signals are then changed to lower the energy of the droplets into the lower energy state so that the droplets relax into the gap and the two droplets contact each other thereby forming a droplet interface. The use of sensing electrodes in the device permit electrical current measurements across the droplet interface. The sensing electrodes can be used for either (i) applying a reference signal during droplet actuation or (ii) recording electrical current measurements.
