CLAMPING PLATFORM FOR A MECHANICAL SHAKER
A clamping platform for a mechanical shaker, which allows automated release and fastening of microtiter plates that are subject to tolerances, includes at least two mounts arranged pairwise for the releasable fastening of the microtiter plates. The platform includes clamping jaws, on which a compression spring acts, actuatable with a link control having a linear drive. In conjunction with the compression spring, the geometry of the guide links allows compensation for the dimensional tolerances of the microtiter plates that are to be fixed by clamping. The spring force of the compression spring is determined such that the clamping jaws that are loaded by the compression spring exert the required clamping force in the deployed position onto the microtiter plates to be fixed.

MAGNETIC-BASED ACTUATION MECHANISMS FOR AND METHODS OF ACTUATING MAGNETICALLY RESPONSIVE MICROPOSTS IN A REACTION CHAMBER
Magnetic-based actuation mechanisms for and methods of actuating magnetically responsive microposts in a reaction (or assay) chamber is disclosed. Namely, a microfluidics system is provided that includes a microfluidics device (or cartridge) that includes the reaction (or assay) chamber in which a field of surface-attached magnetically responsive microposts is installed. The presently disclosed magnetic-based actuation mechanisms are provided in close proximity to the magnetically responsive microposts wherein the magnetic-based actuation mechanisms are used for actuating the magnetically responsive microposts. Namely, the magnetic-based actuation mechanisms generate an actuation force that is used to compel at least some of the magnetically responsive microposts to exhibit motion. Additionally, methods of using the presently disclosed magnetic-based actuation mechanisms for actuating the magnetically responsive microposts are provided.
MICROFLUIDIC CHIP SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PREPARING DROPLETS
A microfluidic chip system for generating droplets is provided by the present disclosure. The microfluidic chip system includes a droplet generation device for generating the droplets, a power generation device for supplying power to the droplet generation device, a collection container for collecting the droplets flowing out of the droplet generation device, a connection device connecting the droplet generation device, the power generation device, and the collection container to each other, and a preparation platform holds together the droplet generation device, the power generation device, and the collection container. A method for preparing the droplets is also provided by the present disclosure.
Flow cells utilizing surface-attached structures, and related systems and methods
A flow cell is provided that includes surface-attached structures in a chamber. The structures are movable in response to a magnetic or electric field. A target extraction or isolation system includes the flow cell and a driver configured for applying a magnetic or electric field to the interior of the flow cell to actuate movement of the structures. The flow cell may be utilized to extract or isolate a target from a sample flowing through the flow cell. Further, a microfluidic system is provided that includes surface-attached structures and a microarray, wherein actuated motion of the surface-attached structures is used to enhance flow, circulation, and/or mixing action for analyte capture on the microarray.
NUCLEIC ACID EXTRACTION AND PURIFICATION CARTRIDGES
Nucleic acid extraction and purification cartridges and systems are provided. The cartridges can be removable and are configured to allow for the concentration of particles of interest, followed by nucleic acid extraction and purification. The cartridges directly contact samples and provide a partial barrier between samples and the reusable components of the system, thereby reducing the probability of clogging the system's microfluidics and fouling the lines, valves, and pumps of the system. Furthermore, these cartridges are designed to purity nucleic acids by removing the majority of inhibitors for down-stream genetic testing. Embodiments may comprise one, two, or three or more channels. In an exemplary embodiment the nucleic acid extraction and purification cartridge comprises a first channel containing a filter disposed therein; and a second channel containing a nucleic acid binding matrix disposed therein, wherein a first end of the cartridge is configured to directly contact a sample comprising a biological material, and wherein a second end of the cartridge Is configured to connect in a reversible fashion to a flow-through automated Instrument that controls fluid flow through the cartridge.
