A device is described that overlays a first fluid, such as blood or a cellular suspension onto a base material, such as a density gradient. In some embodiments, the fluid layering device includes a cylindrical reservoir, a fluid barrier, a coupling extension, a plunger, and an exhaust vent. The fluid layering device can be coupled through its coupling extension to an open end of a container, such as a conical centrifuge tube, including the density gradient. Once attached, the plunger may be lowered to a position above the surface of the density gradient. A first fluid may flow from the reservoir into the conical tube across the plunger, so that a suitable overlay is formed without substantially disturbing a surface of the density gradient.

FLUID HANDLING METHOD, FLUID HANDLING DEVICE USED IN SAME, AND FLUID HANDLING SYSTEM

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a liquid handling method that makes it possible to simply isolate a droplet, a fluid handling device used in this method, and a fluid handling system. This fluid handling method serves to flow a fluid including a solvent and a droplet through a fluid handling device comprising an inlet, a first flow path having one end connected to the inlet, a chamber connected to the other end of the first flow path, a second flow path having one end connected to the chamber, and an outlet connected to the other end of the second flow path. This fluid handling method includes an introduction step for introducing the fluid through the inlet and accommodating the droplet in the chamber, a rotation step for rotating the fluid handling device after the introduction step, and a removal step for removing the droplet from the inside of the chamber after the rotation step. In the introduction step, the fluid handling device is disposed such that the chamber widens from the position where the chamber and the second flow path are connected in the direction opposite from the direction of gravity.

Apparatus and method for collecting multi-tiered particles from a biological sample
20210370285 · 2021-12-02 ·

An apparatus and method for collecting multi-tiered particles from various biological samples for use in downstream biological procedures. Two filters compatible with the device, and of different pore size, are connected via a conduit or are integrated into the conduit. A biological sample is driven through the conduit by applying pressure to one of the inlet ports. The flow of the biological sample is directed to the desired output port by positioning of the internal switch. A switch directs the fluid to flow within the device to elute trapped particles captured on the filters. The apparatus allows for the collection of unstimulated, intact particles without the need for multiple redraws of sample or filtrate. Collection and analysis of biological samples are valuable for correct diagnosis and therapy of a wide variety of different conditions.
