Sample preparation, processing and analysis systems

This disclosure provides an integrated and automated sample-to-answer system that, starting from a sample comprising biological material, generates a genetic profile in less than two hours. In certain embodiments, the biological material is DNA and the genetic profile involves determining alleles at one or a plurality of loci (e.g., genetic loci) of a subject, for example, an STR (short tandem repeat) profile, for example as used in the CODIS system. The system can perform several operations, including (a) extraction and isolation of nucleic acid; (b) amplification of nucleotide sequences at selected loci (e.g., genetic loci); and (c) detection and analysis of amplification product. These operations can be carried out in a system that comprises several integrated modules, including an analyte preparation module; a detection and analysis module and a control module.

MICROSPOTTING DEVICE

Devices and methods are provided for spotting an array with fluid. Arrays produced by such methods are also provided. In one aspect of the invention, a spotter device for spotting a plurality of fluids into an array is described, the spotter device comprising a plurality of reservoirs provided in a first configuration, each reservoir holding its respective fluid, a print head having a plurality of positions provided in a second configuration, the second configuration being different from the first configuration, a plurality of tubes, each tube configured to provide fluid communication from a reservoir at a first end of the tube to a position in the print head at the second end of the tube, and a pump for pumping fluid through the tubes from the reservoir to the print head.

Antibody Pen

Conventional methods for applying the antibodies to the test paper include using expensive striping machines. The present disclosure addresses a need for easier means for preparing test paper for LFI assays. A pen is provided that may include a housing. The housing may include a distal end and a proximal end. The pen may include a tip connected to the distal end of the housing; an ink compartment disposed between the distal end and the proximal end of the housing; and a solution in the ink compartment. The solution may include an antibody or protein.

SAMPLE FILTRATION DEVICE

Sample filtration devices are provided. The devices can comprise a filter membrane positioned between an input and output substrate and joined using an adhesive layer. The filter assembly can be used with various sample collection and dispensing devices, such as a flexible container, a bulb pipette, a micropipette, etc. Applying pressure to the filter assembly, e.g., using a flexible container, a bulb pipette or a micropipette can force the fluid through the filter membrane and onto a test strip or cartridge.
