The separator is arranged in the first operating position relative to the at least one magnet in such a way that the separator shields the at least one magnet, so that metal parts to be separated from feed are pulled onto the separator by the magnet and held thereon. The separator is spaced further apart from the at least one magnet in the second operating position than in the first operating position.
