Optical detection based on non-linear magnetophoretic transport of magnetic particle for particle and biological sensing and separation
There is provided system and a separation substrate device for use with an NLM separator in separating and/or detecting at least one target analyte in a sample, the substrate comprising a micromagnet array of a plurality of micromagnets, the micromagnet array comprising a first capture region, a second focusing region, and, a third detection region, the focusing region comprising a converging and/or diverging micromagnet array region. Also provided is a method for separating and detecting at least one target analyte in a sample. The method including: contacting a plurality of magnetic beads with a sample, the magnetic beads functionalized for binding with one or more target analytes in a sample to form aggregates; providing the sample including magnetic beads and aggregates to a separating substrate comprising a micromagnet array of a plurality of micromagnets; transporting the magnetic beads and aggregates relative to the micromagnet array to provide separation and enable detection of the magnetic beads and aggregates; detecting motion of the beads or aggregates of the sample on the array in response to the applied magnetic field and/or detecting beads or aggregates of the sample on the array at a detection region of the array.

METHOD, PROCESS, AND SYSTEM OF USING A MILL TO SEPARATE METALS FROM FIBROUS FEEDSTOCK
A method for recovering metals from waste in which material is roughly or coarsely separated to leave a fibrous feedstock, the feedstock is comminuted with a mill (e.g., a ball mill) to liberate and separate the fibrous feedstock to obtain a mix of a metal fraction and residue, and the metals fraction and the residue are collected. There is a system employing the same to treat such materials.

Planar magnetic separator
A separator for extracting magnetic material from an airstream of magnetic material and non-magnetic material includes a planar chamber with an inlet port, outlet port and a waste port, and a series of magnets in a plane parallel to the chamber. The magnets rotate about a common axis thereby drawing magnetic material around the chamber and towards the outlet port whilst non-magnetic material is remains in the airstream and is discharged by the waste port.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DYNAMICALLY PROCESSING WASTE
A method for producing a thermal product with a consistent and designable thermal property is disclosed. The method comprises producing from a municipal waste a cellulose-based material stockpile and a plastic-based material stockpile; automatically measuring at least one physical property of the cellulose-based material stockpile and at least one physical property of the plastic-based material stockpile; based on the measurements of the at least one physical property the cellulose-based material stockpile and the measurements of the at least one physical property of the plastic-based material stockpile, automatically controlling mixing the cellulose-based material stockpile and the plastic-based material stockpile to form a mixture by adjusting a ratio of the cellulose-based material stockpile to the plastic-based material stockpile; and automatically heating and compressing the mixture to form the thermal product.
MAGNETIZATION AND MANIPULATION OF HYDROPHOBIC ABSORBENTS
The present invention includes a method of controlling an oil spill through introduction of a plurality of magnetizable particles into the oil spill in an amount sufficient to form a colloidal mixture. An absorbent is also introduced into the oil spill to form an absorbent mixture. A magnetic field can be applied to the system to move, manipulate, or otherwise control the absorbent mixture in response to movement of the magnetic field.
