A blood bag system includes a BC pooling bag for centrifugation of a buffy coat, a filter for removing white blood cells from a supernatant liquid transferred from the BC pooling bag, a platelet preserving bag for reserving the supernatant liquid that has passed through the filter, a first tube connecting the BC pooling bag and an inlet of the filter, a second tube connecting the platelet preserving bag and an outlet of the filter, and a cassette to be fixed in the centrifugation and separation apparatus. The first tube and the second tube are disposed within the cassette. The cassette includes a first clamp section for closing and opening the first tube, and a second clamp section for closing and opening the second tube.

Method and apparatus for centrifugal blood component separation including temperature sensing in each of a plurality of separation cells. The temperature of unit of bloods over time is recorded. If the temperature of any of the units exceeds a pre-determined maximum, portions of the blood separation device may be cooled. A controller may determine which of the units to process first, generally proceeding from the warmest unit to the coolest. The order of unit processing may be changed during processing. The detected temperature may be used to calibrate a pressure sensor used to predict the volume of a component separated from a composite fluid by predicting the volume of the composite fluid from sensed pressure and predicting the volume of other separated components from sensed movement of the other components to collection bags.

A device for separating blood into a plurality of blood components by centrifugal force includes a first chamber for receiving a blood bag filled with blood to be separated. Each separated blood component is located in a separate portion of the blood bag according to its specific weight. A second chamber receives at least one component bag to be filled with a blood component. The component bag has an inlet opening connected to an outlet opening of the blood bag by a line that has a controllable valve. A displacement body in the first chamber exerts a pressing force onto the blood bag. A control unit opens the valve until a blood component passes into the component bag as a result of the pressing force. The displacement body generates the pressing force with the aid of the centrifugal force and/or with the aid of a spring force.

A modular cassette is provided for separating a composite fluid into at least two component parts thereof during centrifugation. The modular cassette includes: a housing defining a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, and a chamber for fluid separation; a fluidic channel configured to provide fluid communication between at least two components of the modular cassette; a heat expanding valve including: a flow pathway including undulations configured to facilitate closing of the fluidic channel, wherein the heat expanding valve occludes one or more of the undulations of the flow pathway to close the fluidic channel; and a heating element configured to actuate the heat expanding valve.

The method includes nesting at least one flexible bag containing the liquid suspension within at least one bag adapter with the at least one inlet line and/or outlet line extending from the flexible bag to an exterior of the bag adapter. The method further includes at least partially enclosing the at least one inlet line and/or outlet line within a crown cavity defined by a crown assembly. The method further includes centrifuging the at least one bag adapter and the at least one flexible bag containing the liquid suspension in a centrifuge to produce a super-natant fluid and a pellet in the at least one flexible bag.

In one aspect, a fully automatic peripheral blood separation method includes: adding a peripheral blood sample liquid in a sample bag and a gradient liquid into a centrifuge cup, collecting a target cell liquid into an intermediate bag after centrifugation of the peripheral blood sample liquid and the gradient liquid in the centrifuge cup, adding the target cell liquid in the intermediate bag and a washing liquid to the centrifuge cup for washing and replacement to obtain a pre-product, and mixing the pre-product and a cell dilution liquid to obtain a final product.

A container, e.g., a bag, for processing whole blood or a whole blood component and a system for processing whole blood or a whole blood component including the container. The container includes a body and an interior chamber. The body has a bulk portion and a surface portion defining an interior surface of the body. The bulk portion of the body is formed from a polymeric composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer. The surface portion of the body includes a biocompatible material that reduces platelet activation, platelet aggregation, or adhesion of platelets to the interior surface of the body. The interior chamber is at least partially defined by the interior surface of the body.
