The handheld fluid spraying system further comprises a controller configured to determine a characteristic of the liquid based on the sensor data and to generate a control output based on the determined characteristic.

The dispensation volume can vary as a function of the distance between the object and the sensor. The processor can be configured to control the motor to dispense approximately the dispensation volume of the liquid.
