A conforming coating mask is used with a turbine component having a plurality of cooling holes. The conforming coating mask includes at least two anchors; a plurality of radial mask strips integrally formed with and extending between each of the at least two anchors; and at least one coating mask securing insert. Each at least one coating mask securing insert integrally formed with a respective at least one radial mask strip; wherein the plurality of radial mask strips align with and cover the plurality of cooling holes.

An additively manufactured (AM) object may include a body including an opening in an exterior surface thereof, the opening having a shape and a first area at the exterior surface of the body. A mask may be positioned over the opening. The mask has the shape of the opening and a second area that is larger than the first area so as to overhang the exterior surface of the body about the opening. A plurality of support ligaments couple to the mask and the exterior surface of the body at a location adjacent to the opening to support a portion of the mask. A coating can be applied to the object, and the mask removed. The final AM object includes a plurality of ligament elements extending from the exterior surface of the body and through the coating adjacent the opening, each ligament element at least partially surrounded by the coating.

A mask may be positioned over the opening. A nozzle applies a sealant to a target area that includes a coupling member and an elongated seam. The nozzle includes a primary portion positionable in line with the coupling member in the target area, a first secondary portion on a first side of the primary portion, and a second secondary portion on a second side of the primary portion. The primary portion is in fluid communication with one or more material sources. The first secondary portion extends from the primary portion such that the first secondary portion is configured to extend over at least a segment of the elongated seam in the target area when the primary portion is positioned in line with the coupling member in the target area. The first secondary portion has a first height, and the second secondary portion has a second height less than the first height.

Methods and systems for applying sealant

A nozzle applies a sealant to a target area that includes a coupling member and an elongated seam. The nozzle includes a primary portion positionable in line with the coupling member in the target area, a first secondary portion on a first side of the primary portion, and a second secondary portion on a second side of the primary portion. The primary portion is in fluid communication with one or more material sources. The first secondary portion extends from the primary portion such that the first secondary portion is configured to extend over at least a segment of the elongated seam in the target area when the primary portion is positioned in line with the coupling member in the target area. The first secondary portion has a first height, and the second secondary portion has a second height less than the first height.

A foldable, disposable protective cover for round gang boxes and lighting housings mounted in walls and ceilings to prevent dust, joint compound, paint, and other building material from entering the receptacles during finish construction operations. This provides a safer electrical environment for electrical wire connections, light bulbs, switches and outlets. The cover is foldable from a stamped planar sheet. The cover is dimensioned to cover conventionally-sized openings of round gang boxes and lighting housings. The cover is easily extracted from a receptacle by lifting the lid from the body and applying hand pressure to crush the cover in-place. Once removed, the gang box or lighting housing interior edges can be easily shaved and sanded clean of excess dried joint compound or paint, to reveal a perfectly completed gang box or lighting housing ready for the installation of electrical components.

CANTILEVERED MASK FOR OPENINGS IN ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURED PART

A mask is provided for an additively manufactured part including a plurality of spaced openings in a surface of the part. The mask is made with the part and includes an attachment ligament configured to integrally couple to the part between the openings in a cantilever fashion. First and second cover members include a proximal ends integrally coupled to the attachment ligament and distal ends extending at least partially over a respective portions of the plurality of openings. A detachment member extends from each of the first and second cover members. The attachment ligament is the sole connection to the part. The mask may have an umbrella shape in cross-section.

A protective mask for a part, the part including a plurality of openings in a surface thereof, is provided. The protective mask includes a mounting member at least partially within each of at least two of the plurality of openings. Each mounting member includes a water soluble material. A masking member couples the at least two mounting members. The masking member includes a non-water soluble material. Each mounting member includes a first plurality of integral layers of the water soluble material, and the masking member includes a second plurality of integral layers of the non-water soluble material. The protective mask can be made by a two material additive manufacturing system. A related method is also provided.
