An apparatus for applying a multi-component viscous material to workpieces includes a metering unit having a number of metering valves corresponding to the number of components of the material, as well as a coupling device, and having a mixing unit having a material inlet at a first end, and a coupling part releasably connected to the coupling device, and, at a second end, a mixing tube having an exit opening for the material, as well as a mixing structure arranged in the tube, for mixing the components as they are passed through the tube from the inlet to the exit. A needle valve releases and closes the exit opening and has a valve needle extending in a longitudinal direction from the material inlet to the exit opening that releases the exit opening in a release position, and closes it in a closed position, by contacting a valve seat.

APPLICATORS FOR DELIVERING GLUTINOUS SUBSTANCE TO WORKPIECE FROM END-EFFECTOR AND ASSOCIATED APPARATUSES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS

An applicator (102) for delivering a glutinous substance (168) to a workpiece (170) from an end-effector (101) is disclosed. The applicator (102) comprises a body (110) and a plunger (186). The plunger (186) comprises a gate (118), movable within an outlet portion (182) of a first channel (115) of the body (110) between, inclusively, an open position, allowing the glutinous substance (168) to flow from an inlet (116) of the first channel (115) to an outlet (117) of the first channel (115) and a closed position, preventing the glutinous substance (168) from flowing from the inlet (116) of the first channel (115) to the outlet (117) of the first channel (115). The applicator (102) further comprises an actuator (131), selectively operable to move the plunger (186) such that the gate (118) moves between, inclusively, the open position and the closed position.

Method for dispensing an adhesive

A dispensing module and method of dispensing an adhesive includes a dispenser body assembly having a liquid supply passage, a nozzle member having a liquid passageway, a valve element, and a valve seat. The liquid passageway includes a discharge passageway defining an outlet, a first converging surface, a bore, and a shoulder positioned between the first converging surface and the bore. The valve element extends along an axis within the liquid passageway and has a bulbous end portion movable along the axis between an open position and a closed position. The bulbous end portion has a valve needle smaller than the bore to inhibit obstruction to the discharge passageway for adhesive flowing thereto. The valve seat seals against the bulbous end portion in the closed position such that a region of the valve needle projects into the discharge passageway for inhibiting clogging of the adhesive proximate to the outlet.
