SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR APPLYING DOTS OF DIFFERENT ADHESIVES TO MOVING ROOFING SHINGLE STOCK
Systems and methods of applying self-seal strips of multiple different adhesives are disclosed. In one embodiment, two spaced apart spoked applicator wheel assemblies are positioned beneath a web of moving shingle stock such that each of the applicator wheels applies dots of different adhesives in an alternating pattern. In other embodiments, a layer of a second adhesive is deposited onto previously applied dots of a first adhesive to form layered adhesive dots with dual properties of both adhesives.
Composite friction elements and pultrusion method of making same
A composite friction unit of a three dimensional composite body is formed in a system for continuous process manufacturing of composite friction units. The system uses a plurality of rolls of reinforcing fiber fabrics, a resin dispensing system that receives a panel of reinforcing fiber fabric from each one of the rolls and separately dispenses resin through a plurality of dispensing tubes, each associated with a different panel, onto a surface of each panel. A forming die is positioned to receive the plurality of panels of reinforcing fiber fabric after resin is dispensed onto the panels and is configured to form a composite panel from the plurality of panels of reinforcing fiber fabrics. A cutting mechanism cuts a desired shape part from the composite panel.
Cam die coating systems
Coating apparatuses and methods are provided for direct coatings with various shapes. The coating apparatus includes a die body with one or more bores. One or more cams are pivotally mounted within the bores and have one or more recessed areas formed into the respective peripheral surfaces thereof. The one or more cams are rotatable within the die body to dynamically, independently vary the width or shape of the respectively dispensed one or more fluid coatings.
CONTINUOUS COATING DEVICE AND CONTINUOUS COATING METHOD
A continuous coating device for continuously conveying a long film includes a coating roll, an imaging device and a coating head. The long film is wound onto the coating roll. The imaging device is configured to capture an image of a mark or a pattern on the long film wound onto the coating roll. The coating head is configured to coat the long film wound onto the coating roll with a specific pattern. The coating head is disposed downstream from the imaging device in a conveyance direction of the long film.
METHOD AND APPLICATION GROUP FOR APPLYING A FLUID ONTO A SUBSTRATE
A fluid for application onto a substrate is provided in a cavity of a hollow cylindrical application roller that has porous roller wall. Before reaching the transfer point to the substrate, fluid is regionally selectively pushed back away from the outer shell surface of the application roller, into the porous roller wall, by a knockback pressure, in order to regionally selectively produce the effect that, at the transfer point, fluid is located at the outer shell surface of the application roller or no fluid is located at the outer shell surface of the application roller. A regionally selective application of fluid onto a substrate may thus be efficiently produced.
Fluid application device having a modular contact nozzle with a fluidic oscillator
A fluid application device includes an applicator head and a nozzle assembly fluidically coupled to the applicator head. The nozzle assembly includes a first conduit configured to receive a first fluid from the applicator head, the first conduit having a first inlet configured to receive the first fluid and a flow-distributing channel downstream from, and in fluid communication with the fluid inlet, the flow-distributing channel configured to direct the first fluid in a lateral direction. The nozzle assembly further includes an application conduit having a first fluid receiving section configured to receive the first fluid from the flow-distributing channel, and an orifice fluidically connected to the application conduit, the orifice configured to discharge the first fluid for application onto a strand of material.
Composite friction elements and pultrusion method of making same
A composite friction unit of a three dimensional composite body is formed in a system for continuous process manufacturing of composite friction units. The system uses a plurality of rolls of reinforcing fiber fabrics, a resin dispensing system that receives a panel of reinforcing fiber fabric from each one of the rolls and separately dispenses resin through a plurality of dispensing tubes, each associated with a different panel, onto a surface of each panel. A forming die is positioned to receive the plurality of panels of reinforcing fiber fabric after resin is dispensed onto the panels and is configured to form a composite panel from the plurality of panels of reinforcing fiber fabrics. A cutting mechanism cuts a desired shape part from the composite panel.
ADHESIVE APPLICATOR WITH ROTARY VALVE
An applicator for applying adhesive to a moving web has a housing with an interior chamber, an inlet and a discharge port. The inlet and discharge port are in fluid communication with the interior chamber. A rotor is disposed within the interior chamber of the housing. The rotor has a body and a nonlinear channel extending about at least a portion of the body. The nonlinear channel is selectively positionable for fluid communication with the inlet and the discharge port of the housing such that adhesive flowing into the housing through the inlet flows through and is directed by the nonlinear channel to the discharge port in the housing. The rotor is rotatable relative to the housing to change the position of the nonlinear channel relative to the discharge port and thereby change the location from which adhesive flows from the discharge port.
METHOD FOR APPLYING AN ADHESIVE ON A WRAPPING BAND OF A SMOKING ARTICLE
A method for applying adhesive on a wrapping band of a smoking article includes moving the band along a feed direction, the band has a longitudinal direction of extension, opposing first and second surfaces, a first plurality of portions having a first thickness and a second plurality of portions having a second thickness greater than the first thickness, the portions of the first and second pluralities being disposed alternately along the direction of extension. A nozzle having a delivery end, and the band are moved towards/away from each other between a first position, where the delivery end and the second surface are at a first distance which is less than or equal to the second thickness, and a second position, where the delivery end and the second surface are at a second distance greater than the second thickness. An adhesive is delivered on the first surface through the nozzle.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORMING ARTICLES WITH NON-UNIFORM COATINGS
An apparatus and process for applying a coating material onto a substrate as a non-uniform layer of coating material, the method including providing a distribution manifold having a cavity and a plurality of dispensing outlets in fluid communication with the cavity, creating relative motion between a substrate and the dispensing outlets in a first direction, and dispensing coating material from the dispensing outlets while simultaneously translating the plurality of dispensing outlets in a second direction non-parallel to the first direction. Using the process, coated articles having a useful non-uniform coating or coatings can be prepared, in particular self-adhesive vapor permeable air and moisture barrier membranes for use as architectural structure wraps.
