Systems and methods for dispensing liquid materials as may be used in applications for coating flexible films and the like. Such a film may be coated by dispensing a rheological material onto its surface while drawing the film through a gap between a pair of rollers. The gap defines the thickness of a layer of the material applied to the film and is maintained at a desired width by microwires positioned through the gap. Another film across the gap from that to which the rheological material is applied aids in the coating of the layer and a contact area of the second film may be adjusted relative to the gap, e.g., when changing materials or when the coating film becomes abraded or deformed.

SLURRY APPLICATION METHOD AND SLURRY APPLICATION DEVICE

Adhesion of particles having a large particle size contained in the slurry to a surface of a strip member is suppressed. A slurry application method includes: spraying a slurry from a nozzle onto one or both of a traveling strip member and a roll; and applying the slurry to a surface of the strip member by pressing the roll against the surface of the strip member, wherein a spray angle is set to 0 or more and 50 or less, a distance d in a conveyance direction of the strip member between an intersection point P1 and a rotation center P2 of the roll is 100 mm or less, and a height h from the surface of the strip member to the intersection point P1 is or less of a diameter of the roll.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR COATING A FOIL

In a coating system, two rollers are arranged adjacent to one another. A donor foil with rheological material dispensed thereon is advanced through a gap between the two rollers. Such gap spreads the dispensed material over the donor foil, coating the donor foil with a layer of the material with a uniform thickness associated with the gap width. Each roller is supported on a holder. Adjustment of the gap width may be effected by keeping the position of one of the holders fixed, while horizontally translating the position of the other holder. The position of the translatable holder may be adjusted by pistons and linear actuators. The pistons may bias the moveable holder towards the stationary holder. The linear actuators mounted on the moveable holder may extend respective arms against the stationary holder, thereby countering the biasing of the pistons and pushing the moveable holder away from the stationary holder.

DOUBLE-SIDEDLY COATING A POROUS WEB WITH A DOPE USING A WEB POSITIONING ELEMENT

A coating apparatus for double-sidedly coating a porous web with a dope, includes: (i) a slot-die coating head comprising an upper lip, a lower lip and a slot between the upper lip and the lower lip, (ii) a counter element arranged opposite the lower lip across a reference plane, (iii) a slit defined between the lower lip and the counter element for passing a porous web therebetween, the slot opening up towards the slit, and (iv) a web positioning element. The web positioning element is the upper lip of the slot-die coating head. The upper lip protrudes up to the reference plane so that there is an offset between the upper lip and the lower lip, or a spacing structure on the counter element. The spacing structure protrudes up to the reference plane so that there is an offset between the spacing structure and the counter element.

Battery paste hopper and tooling

A battery paste application tooling assembly includes a hopper, a connector assembly, and a clamp assembly. The battery paste application tooling assembly can be equipped in a pasting machine. The hopper receives battery paste material. The hopper has an orifice plate with an orifice therein. The connector assembly is engageable with the orifice plate and disengageable therefrom. The clamp assembly is movable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the clamp assembly releasable secures the orifice plate to the hopper. In the second position, the clamp assembly permits removal of the orifice plate from the hopper.

Method and apparatus for lining the cathode of the electrolytic cell

The invention relates to method and apparatus for lining the cathode of the electrolytic cell. The method comprises filling the cell's shell with powder material, leveling it with a rack, covering the fill material with a dust-proof film, and compaction. Compaction is performed in two stages: preliminary static and final dynamic treatment by consequent movement of static and dynamic work tools of compaction along the longitudinal axis of the cathode of the electrolytic cell through a cushion, which is made of at least 2 layers: a lower layer, which prevents pushing powder material forward in the direction of travel, and an upper layer, which provides for a coupling between the cushion and the static work tool. Static treatment unit of the apparatus is designed in the form of a roller with a drive, connected to a dynamic treatment unit with a vibratory exciter by means of elastic elements.
