Modification of surfaces for fluid and solid repellency
Articles, methods of making, and uses for modifying surfaces for liquid repellency are disclosed. The liquid repellant surfaces comprise a surface comprising an anchoring layer. The anchoring layer, which forms an immobilized molecular anchoring layer on the surface, has anchoring molecules, where each anchoring molecule has a head group that is covalently linked to the surface and a functional tail group. The anchoring molecules are crosslinked to each other to form a crosslinked network. The functional tail group has an affinity for a lubricating liquid, which is applied to the treated surface to form a lubricating layer. The anchoring layer and replenishable lubricating liquid are held together by non-covalent attractive forces. Together, these layers form an ultra-repellant slippery surface that repels certain immiscible liquids and prevents adsorption, coagulation, and surface fouling by components contained within.
Non-ablative multi-layer coatings for boat and marina structures that prevent water-derived damage, corrosion, and deterioration from biological chemical processes
Methods of protecting a submerged surface include applying an adhesion-promoting layer onto a surface. An inner polymer layer is applied onto the adhesion-promoting layer. The inner polymer layer is impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance that inhibits biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage. An outer polymer layer is applied onto the inner polymer layer. The outer polymer layer is impregnated with a biologically active chemical substance that inhibits biofouling-induced chemical, biological, and bio-proliferative damage and that repels biofouling organisms to prevent invasion of the inner polymer layer.

SLIPS SURFACE BASED ON METAL-CONTANING COMPOUND
A method of preparing an article having a slippery surface includes providing a metal-containing surface, chemically modifying the metal-containing surface to roughen the metal-containing surface, and disposing a lubricating layer on the roughened metal-containing surface, wherein the lubricating layer is substantially stabilized on the roughened metal-containing surface.
Composite particles, coatings and coated articles
The invention relates to composite particles, coatings, and coated articles. An article is provided at least partially covered with a coating defining a slippery surface. The coating comprises a layer of particulate material bound to the article and a substantially immobilised lubricant at least partially covering and penetrating into the layer of composite particulate material. The composite particulate material comprises a carrier particle at least partially coated with a hydrophobic material. A further article is provided at least partially covered with a coating comprising a layer of the composite particulate material bound to said article. This is useful in preparation of the article having a coating defining a slippery surface. Methods of preparing the coating and the articles are also provided.
