A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SEALING A METALLIC CONTAINER WITH A METALLIC END CLOSURE
20200406337 · 2020-12-31 ·

An apparatus and methods of sealing a metallic container with a metallic end closure are disclosed. The apparatus includes a tool operable to releasably join the closure to the container. In one embodiment, the tool is configured to form a thread in the closure and the container. The tool may optionally crimp the closure to the container. Once sealed, the container can be opened by rotating the closure in an opening direction. The closure can subsequently re-close the container by rotating the closure in a closing direction.

Lid seaming apparatus with small angle engagement

Disclosed is a lid seaming apparatus that uses a seam forming roller and a seam sealer roller that move in a direction that is substantially parallel or is preferably less than 10 degrees from a tangent line drawn through the intersection point of the seam forming roller and the seam sealer roller with a seaming chuck. A displacement between the seaming chuck and the seam sealer roller that is slightly less than the thickness of a sealed seam allows for a high degree of adjustment and the creation of forces that are sufficient to cause the seam to properly seal.

Continuous motion position controlled seamer

A continuous motion position controlled in-line linear seamer allows a manufacturer or brewery such as a microbrewery to have high speed can seaming (attachment of lids to full cans of beverage) with a single compact, inexpensive, independent and repositionable seaming machine. The seaming is carried out in-line with production, and is done using a linear can path with no need for a large carousel. The motion is continuous because a variable pitch worm drive is constantly operating, driving cans at different speeds for different portions of the can path, including one portion of the path at which the can may remain motionless while being seamed.

A can seaming apparatus including a frame, a can handling assembly, a can driving assembly and a seaming assembly. The can seaming apparatus is configured to seal a lid to a can through a double seam can seal. The can is positioned and clamped between an upper and a lower chuck. The can driving assembly spins the can and the upper and lower chucks about an axis. The seaming assembly includes two rollers which can selectively be directed to engage the can to form the necessary crimping operations.

An upstream-side guidance part 400 is provided with plural upstream-side guidance members 410 guiding disc-shaped members 300. A downstream-side guidance part 500 is provided with plural downstream-side guidance members 510 guiding the disc-shaped members 300. The positions of the upstream-side guidance members 410 in the circumferential direction of the disc-shaped member 300 are different from the positions of the downstream-side guidance members 510 in the circumferential direction of the disc-shaped member 300, and at least one of the upstream-side guidance part 400 and the downstream-side guidance part 500 is able to move forward and backward with respect to the other.

Container, and selectively formed shell, and tooling and associated method for providing same

A shell, a container employing the shell, and tooling and associated methods for forming the shell are provided. The shell includes a center panel, a circumferential chuck wall, an annular countersink between the center panel and the circumferential chuck wall, and a curl extending radially outwardly from the chuck wall. The material of at least one predetermined portion of the shell is selectively stretched relative to at least one other portion of the shell, thereby providing a corresponding thinned portion.

The can driving assembly spins the can and the upper and lower chucks about an axis. The seaming assembly includes two rollers mounted to a roller frame which pivots about an axis relative to the frame. The roller frame can be pivoted so as to selectively have the two rollers sequentially engage the can to form the necessary crimping operations.

Method and device for the manufacture of a can with a tear-open lid and can with a tear-open lid

To manufacture a metal can having a tear-open lid and having a storage space for an object above the tear-open lid, the following procedure is used: first, a top edge of the can which has a smaller diameter than the inside diameter of the can body is formed, wherein a transition region (6) is formed. After the tear-open lid has been attached, this transition region is deep drawn so that the tear-open lid (2) is displaced towards the bottom (5) of the can. This produces the storage space. This procedure allows previously formed tear-open lids to be used, which safely guarantees the imperviousness of the seal of the tear-open lid.
