12071280 · 2024-08-27 · ·

The present disclosure generally relates to containers and container end closures, and more specifically metallic end closures for small diameter metallic beverage containers. The present disclosure also relates to the tooling used to form the novel end closure, where the tooling is itself novel. The change of the angles on the die core ring improve the mobility of the metal while forming the end closure. Specifically, when manufacturing the new end closure with the new tooling, the press output is increased by over five times.

A beverage container is disclosed including a cylindrical body defining a volume configured to hold a liquid beverage and a neck having at least one slanted sidewall extending inwardly from and about a circumference of a first end of the cylindrical body. The beverage container also includes a lid sealed with one end of the neck. The lid has a top planar portion with one or more score lines that define a primary opening when ruptured to provide a flow of the liquid beverage to a consumer when the beverage container is tilted from vertical. The beverage container also includes a lip relief extending inward and only partially circumventing an area of the neck. The lip relief is aligned with the primary opening and is dimensioned to accept a lower lip of the consumer while drinking the liquid beverage when the beverage container is tilted from vertical.

LID FOR A BEVERAGE CAN
20180148219 · 2018-05-31 ·

The invention relates to a lid (10) consisting of metal, in particular of aluminum. For a beverage can or the like, which lid is designed to be permanently connected to a can body and has a lid panel (20) on which a rivet (40) for a grip tab (14) is formed and in which a predetermined breaking line (34) defining a breaking open area is impressed, along which line an opening in the lid panel (20) can be opened by means of the grip tab (14), wherein a rivet base (47), which has resulted from a formation of the rivet (40), is present around the rivet (40), within which base the metal of the lid (10) is thinner and or more brittle than in adjoining region of the lid panel (20). The particular feature of the invention consists in the fact that the predetermined breaking line (34) runs outside the rivet base, and a material-thinning embossment (44), which likewise runs outside the rivet base, is provided at least in a lid panel region which is situated between the rivet base (47) and a predetermined pressing point (48) of the breaking-open area onto which a breaking-open edge of the grip tab presses to open the drinking opening, wherein the predetermined breaking line (34) overlaps the material-thinning embossment in the lid panel region and the embossing depth of the predetermined breaking line is greater than the embossing depth of the material-thinning embossment (44).
