A tool for installing a blind fastener including a core bolt and a core nut is provided. The tool includes a driving member, a collet driven by the driving member for engaging the core bolt, and an external sleeve for holding the core nut and preventing the core nut from rotating during installation of the blind fastener. The external sleeve is movable between a first position in which the external sleeve is driven by the collet to rotate with the collet and a second position in which the external sleeve is stationary despite rotating action of the collet.

Blind fastener tool with pulling fingers

A blind fastener tool with pulling fingers is provided. One embodiment is a tool for installing a blind fastener in a hole. The tool includes stationary fingers having tips protruding from a front end of the housing to contact a rim of a sleeve of the blind fastener. The tool also includes pulling fingers in the housing arranged longitudinally in spaces between the stationary fingers. Ends of the pulling fingers proximate to the front end are configured to radially expand to receive a drive element of the blind fastener, and to radially collapse to grip a collar of the drive element. The pulling fingers are configured to translate inside the housing to pull the drive element away from the sleeve as the stationary fingers contact the rim of the sleeve to form a bulb with the sleeve at a blind side of the hole.

TOOL AND ASSOCIATED METHOD FOR INSTALLING A BLIND FASTENER

A tool for installing a blind fastener. The tool includes a retention member and a gripping member that defines a longitudinal axis and is moveable relative to the retention member along the longitudinal axis, the gripping member further defining a receiving cavity that is elongated along the longitudinal axis, an axial opening into the receiving cavity, and a radial opening into the receiving cavity. The tool also includes a contact element at least partially received in the radial opening and a locking collar moveable relative to the gripping member along the longitudinal axis between at least a first position and a second position. In the first position the locking collar engages the contact element and urges at least a portion of the contact element into the receiving cavity. In the second position the locking collar is disengaged from the contact element.

In situ formation of threads throughout bore of sleeve inserted into substrate hole

Threads are formed in situ throughout a bore of a sleeve inserted into a corresponding hole in a substrate. A sleeve having a bore is inserted into a corresponding hole of a substrate. A mandrel is rotated through the sleeve. The mandrel has a threaded ended; the threaded end rotating throughout the bore of the sleeve forms threads throughout the bore. Prior to inserting the sleeve into the corresponding hole of the substrate, the sleeve can be placed onto the mandrel. In this case, the mandrel has an increasing diameter at the threaded end thereof, such that the sleeve rests on the mandrel towards the threaded end thereof where the bore has a smaller diameter than the mandrel. The mandrel is then rotated out of the sleeve in a direction opposite the direction in which the sleeve has been inserted into the corresponding hole of the substrate.

Riveting tool chuck and riveting tool

A riveting tool chuck. The riveting tool chuck comprises a cylinder handgrip (1). A rotating member (2) and a transmission member (3) are disposed in the cylinder handgrip in a penetrating manner, the rotating member is axially positioned and circumferentially and rotatably connected to the cylinder handgrip, and the transmission member is circumferentially positioned and axially and movably connected to the cylinder handgrip, and the rotating member and the transmission member are connected by means of a thread structure (4). A safety valve mechanism (9) that can enable the thread structure to have a screw pair pretightening force is disposed between claw body top columns (8) and the transmission member, and in the process of forward rotation of the rotating member, the safety valve mechanism can enable the rotating member to implement screw pair transformation of a screw structure before the axial reaction force between the front end of each claw body (5) and the rear end of a cylinder guiding nozzle (7) is reduced to zero, so that backlash stroke of the screw structure is avoided. A riveting tool using the riveting tool chuck. The riveting tool chuck has the advantages that the structural design is reasonable, and the riveting tool chuck can be adaptive to a driving device containing power output, can provide a pretightening force for screw pairs, and has no backlash stroke.

Riveting method for aircraft

A riveting method that includes riveting a first aircraft part to a second aircraft part. The method includes capturing a plenoptic image of the rivet and at least one of the first part and the second part in the vicinity of the rivet, by a plenoptic imaging device secured to a riveting head, after riveting the first part to the second part. The method includes detecting the positioning and the surface condition of the rivet, from the plenoptic image captured by the imaging device.

Installation tool for a blind fastener and installation procedure for a fastener

An installation tool for a fastener of the pull screw type, comprising a breakable gripping element includes a body, a first sleeve movable axially and rotationally in the body that can drive the gripping element, a second sleeve movable axially in the body and immovable in rotation, and a driving device provided with a turning shaft. The shaft comprises a first free wheel for driving the first sleeve in rotation, a second free wheel, and a driving element positioned coaxially around the second free wheel. The driving element cooperates using a helical link with the second sleeve. The first free wheel drives the first sleeve in rotation in a first rotation direction of the shaft. The second free wheel brings the driving element in rotation in a second rotation direction of the shaft to move the second sleeve axially, allowing full setting in a single operating sequence.

Rivet gun

A rivet gun includes a gun body and a spear detachably connected. The gun body has an axial negative pressure air chamber and an axial hydraulic chamber intercommunicating for gas pressure. The spear includes a connecting chamber communicating with the hydraulic chamber and a gun nozzle. A jaw chamber operating for nail-clamping purposes is adjacent to the gun nozzle. The hydraulic chamber has a piston and an elastic member attached to the piston, other end of the elastic member connecting to the negative pressure air chamber. The piston is coupled to a rod, the rod bears on the jaw chamber to move along the axis of the connecting chamber and thereby clamp on or release a riveting nail.

A method enabling two holes belonging to two parts to be aligned relies on use of a tool, comprising a body, having a first outer surface which gradually wanders from a longitudinal axis of the body as it extends from a first end of the body, and a hollow part having a second outer surface with a complementary section to the section of the holes. The hollow part comprises a hole through which it is removably mounted on the tool so that the second outer surface extends the first outer surface on an opposite side to the first end of the body. The method comprises inserting the first end of the body into the first hole, and then operating the tool to push the body and then the hollow part together into the holes. This method especially applies to the assembly of a floor module to an aircraft fuselage.
