The method includes: receiving measures of current supplied to a motor of the power tool during operation of the power tool; determining rate of change of the current during operation of the power tool; determining occurrence of the power tool engaging the fastener based on the magnitude of the current supplied to the motor; determining occurrence of the power tool swaging the fastener based on the rate of change of the current; determining completion of the power tool swaging the fastener based on the magnitude of the current and the rate of change of the current; and verifying quality of the installation of the fastener using the determination of the occurrence of the power tool engaging the fastener and the determination of the completion of the power tool swaging the fastener.

In an embodiment of the method, a joining element is inserted into the two components, and during the joining process, at least one parameter quantifying the joining process is determined. The joining element is inserted by a robot and the at least one parameter quantifying the joining process is determined by the robot. A device for joining two components is also disclosed.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR JOINING COMPONENTS BY RIVETING
A riveting system, for use in mechanically linking adjacent workpieces, including a rivet having a height greater than a sum of thicknesses, measured along a line of riveting, of the workpieces being linked, so that the rivet can pass fully through the workpieces. The system also includes a riveting die, which may be a separate product. The die includes a protrusion extending from a peak toward a transition point; and a trough having a trough surface. The trough surface includes a trough inner wall, extending from the transition point to a trough bottom, and a trough outer wall, extending from the trough bottom to a trough outer edge. The technology also includes computerized systems for comparing a load-displacement profile of riveting to a pre-set profile to determine whether the riveting was performed properly.

A device for setting a connecting element on a workpiece includes a setting unit having a setting head which is movable in a feed direction into a working position, the connecting element can be fastened on the workpiece by the setting head, and a feed unit can feed the connecting element to the setting head. The feed unit is movable in the feed direction from an initial position into an intermediate position for transferring a connecting element to the setting head. A method for setting a connecting element on a workpiece by using the device is also provided.
SETTING TOOL FOR A BLIND FASTENER, SETTING METHOD AND SUITABLE BLIND FASTENER
Disclosed is a blind fastener including a core bolt, a body and a blind side clamp on the core bolt insertable through an aperture, where moving the core bolt relative to the body forms an enlarged bearing surface against a back surface. The fastener includes an extension from the body with a wrenching surface and an undercut between the body and the wrenching surface that is optionally configured to break when torque equal to the sum of an application specified minimum installed seated torque and a manufacturing failure torque tolerance for the undercut is applied. Also disclosed is a method of dressing the installed fastener including machining through the top surface of the fastener along a longitudinal axis of the core bolt of the fastener and the extension that extends from a body of the fastener until intersecting the undercut between the extension to remove the extension.
FASTENING TOOL
A fastening tool includes a housing, a fastener-abutment part, a pin-gripping part held within the fastener-abutment part to be movable in a front-rear direction relative to the fastener-abutment part, a detection-target part provided to move together with the pin-gripping part, a detection device configured to detect the detection-target part, a motor, and a driving mechanism configured to move the pin-gripping part rearward from an initial position relative to the fastener-abutment part. The driving mechanism is further configured to move the pin-gripping part forward relative to the fastener-abutment part so as to return the pin-gripping part to the initial position based on a detection result of the detection device. The fastening tool is configured such that a first moving distance is adjustable, the first moving distance being a distance by which the pin-gripping part is moved from a detection position to the initial position.

One embodiment is a method for fastening via a swage tool, the method including selecting a hole located at a part; aligning an axis of a lockbolt collar with a center of the hole; placing the lockbolt collar flush against the part at a first end of the hole; and swaging the lockbolt collar onto a lockbolt that has been driven through the hole.

Systems and methods are provided for inspecting installation of a fastener. One method includes monitoring hydraulic pressure of a tool that is installing the fastener, detecting that the hydraulic pressure has dropped by more than a threshold amount within a period of time, determining that a pintail of the fastener has snapped in response to the detecting, and reducing the hydraulic pressure in response to the determining.
