A system and method for feeding and fixing snap connectors of a ripple fold curtain system, in which a drum mixes loose snap connectors, successively introduced individually in an opening in the drum for letting one of the snap connectors out. The orientation of the one of the snap connectors is forced by having the opening have a height smaller than the width of the snap connectors. After travelling while maintaining their orientation aligned with motion, each snap connector is received in the same orientation at a receptacle comprising shoulders for retaining a larger portion of the one of the snap connectors, the receptacle retaining it at a definite location and maintaining the orientation. A rivet is positioned on that larger portion of the snap connector and snapped using a hammer of which the surface is parallel with the snap connector and underlying receptacle bottom surface.

A method for sensing the presence of a fastener in a feeder and fastening system for joining a fastener to a workpiece comprises a head with a receiving element for receiving the fastener, a joining drive element, a feeder for feeding fasteners from a magazine to the receiving element, a feeding tube adapted to receive fasteners from the magazine and through which the fasteners are driven to the receiving element by compressed air. The feeder further includes a pressure sensor for sensing the pressure of compressed air flowing through the feeding tube and a microprocessor for processing and computing the pressure to detect the presence or passage of a fastener in the feeding tube.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR SELECTING AND PRE-FEEDING FASTENERS INTO AUTOMATED DRILLING MACHINES

Described herein are methods and manufacturing systems that select fasteners for pre-feeding and, in some examples, pre-feed the selected fasteners. These methods involve aggregating historical manufacturing data, comprising hole identifications and fastener grip lengths, previously selected for these hole identifications. A specific grip length and a corresponding fastener repeatability rating are then determined for each hole identification from this historical manufacturing data. For example, a specific grip length corresponds to the most frequently selected grip length for this hole identification. In some examples, the historical manufacturing data is analyzed using machine learning. The fastener repeatability rating is compared to an operating threshold, in some examples, to determine if the corresponding grip length should be selected for a particular hole location. This grip length selection is then used for pre-feeding a corresponding fastener into an automated drilling machine, thereby saving significant processing time relative to conventional processes.
