A method for producing an aluminum strip (2) in a coupled casting-rolling process, includes the following steps: a) melting an aluminum raw material comprising at least one aluminum alloy in at least one melting assembly (4); b) determining the alloy composition of the melt (3); c) casting the melt (3) to form a hot strip by means of at least one strip-casting machine (6); d) rolling the hot strip in a rolling system (14) comprising at least one rolling device for shaping the hot strip for thickness and/or width reduction; and e) regulating and/or controlling at least one shaping parameter of the rolling system (14) as a function of the alloy composition of the melt (3). The disclosure also relates to a casting-rolling system (1) for carrying out the method.
Vacuum Melting and Casting Apparatus
A hermetically sealed container is equipped inside thereof with: a melting furnace; a cooling roll for subjecting the molten metal tapped from the melting furnace to primary cooling to form a casting; and a rotatable cooling drum which receives the casting formed by the cooling roll and which subjects the casting to secondary cooling. The cooling drum has: a tubular member elongated in one longitudinal direction and having a receiving opening which is formed to open on one side of the tubular member to receive therein the casting, and a discharge opening which is formed to open on an opposite side of the tubular member to discharge the casting that has been subjected to the secondary cooling; and a transfer means for transferring the casting received from the receiving opening toward the discharge opening in response to the rotation of the tubular member.
AUTOMATIC DAM POSITIONING SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CONTROLLING MOLTEN METAL DISTRIBUTION TO CONTINUOUS CASTERS
A metal feeding system includes an injector for distributing a molten metal into a movable mold, a supply container upstream from the injector and defining a receiving area for receiving the molten metal, and a dam system. The dam system includes a dam positionable within the receiving area and a controller that may vertically position the at least one dam for controlling a flow of molten metal from the receiving area to the injector. A method of controlling a molten metal distribution to a continuous casting device includes at least partially blocking a flow of a molten metal from a receiving area to an injector using at least one dam in the receiving area. The method may include detecting a temperature of the molten metal downstream from the at least one dam and controlling a vertical position of the at least one dam based on the detected temperature.

A shoe for dispensing a molten metal such as lead into a mold cavity of a rotating drum to continuously cast a web of a plurality of serially connected grids or battery composite electrodes of a carbon fiber material with a cast metal conductor. The shoe may have at least one elongate orifice slot in a face confronting the drum, a molten metal supply passage communicating with the orifice slot and an excess molten metal return slot opening into the confronting face downstream of the supply slot relative generally to the direction of rotation of the drum.
