Apparatus for injecting molten metal into a die cast machine and methods and control systems for cooling the same

An apparatus for injecting molten metal into a die cast machine is provided. The apparatus includes a molten metal reservoir having a first open end in fluid communication with a die casting mold and a second open end. The molten metal reservoir includes at least one first cooling fluid path positioned about at least a portion of an outer surface of the molten metal reservoir and in thermal contact with the molten metal reservoir. The apparatus further includes a plunger sized to fit within the second open end. The plunger includes a plunger tip and a second cooling fluid path defined within the plunger tip and in thermal contact with the molten metal reservoir. A plurality of thermal actuators are also provided. Each of the plurality of thermal actuators controls a volume of cooling fluid flowing through one first cooling fluid path of the at least one first cooling fluid path or the second cooling fluid path.

Inline melt control via RF power

Various embodiments provide apparatus and methods for melting materials and for containing the molten materials within melt zone during melting. Exemplary apparatus may include a vessel configured to receive a material for melting therein; a load induction coil positioned adjacent to the vessel to melt the material therein; and a containment induction coil positioned in line with the load induction coil. The material in the vessel can be heated by operating the load induction coil at a first RF frequency to form a molten material. The containment induction coil can be operated at a second RF frequency to contain the molten material within the load induction coil. Once the desired temperature is achieved and maintained for the molten material, operation of the containment induction coil can be stopped and the molten material can be ejected from the vessel into a mold through an ejection path.

A casting device for operating stably while suppressing leakage from a gap between a tip and a sleeve is disclosed. The casting device includes: a sliding member in the center of which a rod slides, and in which a gap is formed between the rod and the sleeve; a seal member arranged at an outer periphery of the sliding member; and a suction device for suctioning air inside the sleeve. When the seal member is positioned in a center section closer to a cavity than a pouring hole, and the air in a space between the sliding member and the tip is suctioned, the seal member assumes a first state in which the seal member adheres to the center section, and in the first state, the tip advances toward the cavity.

Arranged between a sprue region (42) of the diecasting nozzles (40) and the casting vessel (3) is at least one nonreturn valve (48), which prevents the melt (4) from flowing back from the sprue region (42) in the direction of the casting vessel (3). According to the invention, the nonreturn valve (48) is respectively arranged between the sprue region (42) of at least the upper diecasting nozzles (40) and a final branch of melt runners (22) in the melt distributor (20) to each of the diecasting nozzles (40).
