The invention relates to a method for producing a metal foam of at least one first metal that contains the main constituent Mg, Al, Pb, Au, Zn, Ti or Fe in a quantity of at least approximately 80 wt. % in relation to the quantity of the at least one first metal, said method comprising the following steps: (I) providing a semi-finished product comprising a foamable mixture that comprises the at least one first metal and at least one foaming agent, (II) submerging the semi-finished product in a heatable bath comprising a liquid, and (III) heating the semi-finished product in the bath in order to foam the foamable mixture by removing gas from the at least one foaming agent for forming the metal foam. The invention also relates to a metal foam, to a composite material that can be obtained by the method, and to a component comprising the metal foam and/or the composite material.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING A SEMI-FINISHED PRODUCT FOR A COMPOSITE MATERIAL
The invention relates to a method for producing a semi-finished product comprising a foamable core comprising a foamable mixture that comprises at least one first metal having an aluminum content of at least approximately 80 wt. %, in relation to the quantity of the at least one first metal, and at least one foaming agent, wherein a layer of at least one second metal in the form of a non-foamable solid material and with an aluminum content of at least approximately 80 wt. %, in relation to the quantity of the at least one second metal, is respectively applied to at least one first and second surface of the core. The invention also relates to a corresponding semi-finished product and to the use of such a semi-finished product for foaming a metal.
Porous rotating machine component, combustor and manufacturing method
A rotating machine component, particularly a gas turbine combustion component, having at least one part built from a porous material with a plurality of pores, wherein at least a subset of the plurality of pores is at least partly filled with a gas with a composition different from air and/or with a powder, wherein the porous material is a laser sintered or laser melted material in which void local regions form the plurality of pores. The component counter-acts vibrations. A rotating machine or gas turbine engine may have such a component.
Light weight component and method of making
A method of making a light weight component is provided. The method including the steps of: forming a metallic foam core into a desired configuration; and applying an external metallic shell to an exterior surface of the metallic foam core after it has been formed into the desired configuration.
Light weight housing for internal component with integrated thermal management features and method of making
A method of making a light weight housing for an internal component is provided. The method including the steps of: forming a first metallic foam core into a desired configuration; forming a second metallic foam core into a desired configuration; inserting an internal component into the first metallic foam core; placing the second metallic foam core adjacent to the first metallic core in order to secure the internal component between the first metallic foam core and the second metallic foam core; applying an external metallic shell to an exterior surface of the first metallic foam core and the second metallic foam core; and securing an inlet fitting and an outlet fitting to the housing, wherein a thermal management fluid path for the internal component into and out of the housing is provided by the inlet fitting and the outlet fitting.
METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR LASER DEPOSITION
A laser deposition apparatus includes a sealed enclosure configured to hold a substrate, a powder source configured to hold a powder material, a peen source configured to hold a shot peen media, and a deposition system fluidly connected to the powder source and the peen source. The deposition system includes a laser configured to generate a laser beam. The deposition system is configured to deposit at least one layer on the substrate by injecting a stream of the powder material into the laser beam. The deposition system is configured to shot peen the at least one layer by propelling the shot peen media onto an exterior surface of the at least one layer.
Hybrid shape memory effect elements for facile integration to structures
There is disclosed a method for chemically bonding TiNi materials to Nitinol constructs, comprising placing a Nitinol construct within a mold and packing a powder combination comprising Ti powder and Ni powder, and powder comprised of zero or more of the elements Cu, Hf, Zr, Pt, Pd, Au, Cd, Ag, Nb, Ta, O, N, B, and H, into the mold. The method further includes initiating a process of self-propagating high temperature synthesis of the powder combination within the mold to create a chemical bond between the Nitinol construct and a resulting TiNi foam to thereby create a Nitinol and TiNi assembly.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING A GAS TURBINE COMPONENT
A method for producing a gas turbine component, which comes into frictional contact with a friction partner, includes: providing a base body produced from a superalloy; applying a first metal coating to a surface of the base body facing the at least one friction partner in the mounted state, wherein an additive production method using a first metal powder is used to apply the first metal coating; and applying a second metal coating to the first metal coating, wherein an additive production method using a second metal powder and a pulverulent pore-forming agent is used to apply the second metal coating and, by adding the pore-forming agent, the porosity of the second metal coating is set such that it is greater than the porosity of the first metal coating, and the volume flows of the introduced metal powder and the introduced pulverulent pore-forming agent are set or controlled separately.
PROSTHESIS WITH SURFACES HAVING DIFFERENT TEXTURES AND METHOD OF MAKING THE PROSTHESIS
