Indexable drill insert and rotary cutting tool employing same
An insert includes four identical cutting edges disposed at the intersection of top and side surfaces surface. Each cutting edge includes a first part edge disposed tangent to a first reference circle aligned about the central mounting aperture; a second part edge extending from the first part edge, the second part edge being connected to the first part edge via a convex curved portion; a third part edge disposed tangent to a second reference circle aligned about the central mounting aperture, the second reference circle having a smaller diameter than the first reference circle, the third part edge being connected to the second part edge via a concave curved portion; and a convexly curved corner portion extending from the third part edge of one of the identical cutting edges to the first part edge of another one of the identical cutting edges.
CUTTING INSERT, CUTTING TOOL, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING MACHINED PRODUCT
A cutting insert in the present disclosure includes an upper surface, a lower surface, a side surface, and an edge. The upper surface includes a first corner part and a second corner part. The edge is located in a region which is located between the first corner part and the second corner part. The edge includes a first edge located at a side of the first corner part, a second edge located at a side of the second corner part, and a third edge located between the first edge and the second edge. The edge has a curvilinear shape being recessed toward the lower surface in a side view. Each of a radius of curvature R1 of the first edge and a radius of curvature R2 of the second edge is smaller than a radius of curvature R3 of the third edge in a side view.
Cutting insert and cutting tool
A cutting tool includes a cutting insert that is held in a holder in a detachable manner. The cutting insert has a substantially regular quadrangular shape in plan view and includes four round corners. The cutting insert is formed of CBN sinter as a whole. The cutting insert includes two principal surfaces that are upper and lower surfaces opposite to each other, and four side surfaces that are arranged so as to connect the principal surfaces to each other. A boundary portion (ridge line portion) between each of the principal surfaces and each of the side surfaces forms a cutting edge. In a central portion of each of the side surfaces of the cutting insert, a groove for absorbing a crack, having a substantially V-shape in cross section, is formed all around the cutting insert so as to be recessed with respect to the side surfaces.
INSERT, DRILL, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING MACHINED PRODUCT USING THE SAME
In an embodiment, an insert includes an upper surface including a corner part, a lower surface, a side surface, and a cutting edge. The side surface is between the upper surface and the lower surface. The cutting edge is at least at a part of a first region in which the upper surface intersects with the side surface. The cutting edge includes a first cutting edge at the corner part, a second cutting edge, a third cutting edge, and a fourth cutting edge. The second cutting edge is next to the first cutting edge, and also next to the third cutting edge. The third and fourth cutting edges: each have a convex curvilinear shape with first and second radii of curvature, respectively; and extend downward and upward, respectively, in a side view as going farther from the second cutting edge. The second radius smaller than the first radius.
