Cutting tool and cutting insert having complementary engagement features for eccentric mounting
A cutting tool has a cutting body with a first insert pocket and an indexable cutting insert removably mounted therein. The first insert pocket has a first seat surface with a plurality of first engagement elements and a first support wall transverse thereto. The cutting insert has upper and lower surfaces and a boundary surface extending therebetween. The lower surface has a plurality of lower engaging elements and the boundary surface has a plurality of alternating first and second peripheral surfaces intersecting the upper surface to form first and second upper cutting edges. In each index position with the lower surface in contact with the first seat surface, the first support wall prevents translation of the cutting insert in a first direction, and the first engagement elements eccentrically contact the lower engaging elements to prevent translation of the cutting insert in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction.
Rotary cutting tool
A rotary cutting tool is provided which, although it has a simple configuration, allows the arrangement of each cutting edge to be easily adjusted. A first cartridge mounting seat has an upper wall surface opposing an outer side surface of a cartridge and further has a first recessed part into which a protrusion is inserted and which comes into contact, at a bottom thereof, with a leading end of the protrusion. A second cartridge mounting seat has an upper wall surface opposing an outer side surface of a cartridge and further has a second recessed part into which a protrusion is inserted and which comes into contact, at a bottom thereof, with a leading end of the protrusion. A depth of the second recessed part is greater than a depth of the first recessed part. An amount of protrusion P of the protrusion is equal to or greater than the depth of the second recessed part.
Square-shaped cutting insert having curved secondary and corner cutting edges, and rotary cutting tool
An indexable cutting insert has upper and lower surfaces with a peripheral surface extending therebetween and having four side surfaces alternating with four corner surfaces. The side and corner surfaces intersect the upper surface to form side and corner cutting edges, respectively. Each side cutting edge includes a primary cutting edge adjoining one of the corner cutting edges at a first endpoint and a secondary cutting edge adjoining another one of the corner cutting edges at a second endpoint. In a top view, the four primary cutting edges define an imaginary first square, each primary cutting edge is tangential to its adjoining corner cutting edge, and each secondary cutting edge is curved and entirely located in one of four imaginary quadrants. The insert is removably secured in a rotary cutting tool such that one of the secondary cutting edges contains the axially forwardmost point of the insert's upper peripheral edge.
CUTTING INSERT AND INDEXABLE EDGE ROTARY CUTTING TOOL
A cutting insert includes a rake face configuring one of polygonal surfaces, a seating surface configuring the other one of the polygonal surfaces, and a side surface connecting the rake face and the seating surface to each other. The cutting insert has a cutting edge portion including a main cutting edge located in a side portion of the rake face, a subsidiary cutting edge connected to the main cutting edge, and a corner cutting edge connected to the subsidiary cutting edge and located in a corner portion of the rake face. The side surface includes a flank face and a connection surface which are adjacent to each other in a thickness direction via a boundary line. The connection surface is located on the seating surface side, and is located outside than an extension line of the flank face.
CUTTING INSERT AND CUTTING TOOL
The present invention provides a cutting insert in which suitable honing is formed on a cutting edge. The cutting insert is provided with: two end surfaces opposing each other; a peripheral side surface extending between the two end surfaces; and a cutting edge formed on an intersecting ridge between at least one of the two end surfaces and the peripheral side surface. The cutting edge at least includes a major cutting edge and an inner cutting edge. Honing is provided on the major cutting edge and the inner cutting edge. A width of second honing of the inner cutting edge is narrower than a width of first honing of the major cutting edge, as viewed from a side of the end surfaces.
Cutting insert, cutting tool, and method of manufacturing a machined product
A cutting insert according to an embodiment of the present invention has a cutting edge having a first corner cutting edge, a flat cutting edge, a connecting edge, a major cutting edge, and a second corner cutting edge in the order named. The major cutting edge has an upwardly protruding curvilinear portion, a first straight line portion extending from the curvilinear portion toward the connecting edge, and a second straight line portion extending from the curvilinear portion toward the second corner cutting edge. The flat cutting edge and the major cutting edge have a straight line shape, and the connecting edge has an outwardly protruding curvilinear shape in a top view. The flat cutting edge, the connecting edge, and the first straight line portion are located on a straight line in a side view.
CUTTING INSERT
A cutting insert has a substantially triangular or square basic shape with a top surface and a base surface that are connected together by lateral flanks. A cutting edge is formed at the transition between at least one flank and the top surface. The cutting edge extends between cutting corners, and the cutting edge has a portion that is convex in side view of a flank. The convex portion of the cutting edge is bounded on both sides by concavely curved portions.
Double-sided cutting insert and milling tool
A reversible cutting insert for milling has first and second cutting edges formed at the transitions from the top and bottom surfaces to a lateral face. The cutting insert has a 4-fold rotational symmetry. A reference plane extends perpendicular to the axis of symmetry. The cutting edges have four cutting edge portions. One cutting edge portion is a main edge and a wiper edge that are connected by a rounded cutting corner. The first and second cutting edges are at the greatest distance from the reference plane in the region of the cutting corners. Main and wiper clearance faces directly adjoin an assigned main edge and wiper edge, respectively, in the circumferential lateral face. Exterior angles between the main clearance faces and the reference plane are greater than exterior angles between the wiper clearance faces and the reference plane.
