CUTTING TOOL AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING MACHINED PRODUCT
A cutting tool may have a columnar shape extended along a rotation axis from a first end toward a second end, and may include a holder, a first insert and a second insert. The holder may include a first pocket, a second pocket, a first flute and a second flute. The second pocket may be located closer to the second end than the first pocket. The first flute may be extended along the first pocket. The second flute may be extended along the second pocket. A first length from the rotation axis to the first flute may be smaller than a second length from the rotation axis to the second flute. An opening width of the first flute may be smaller than an opening width of the second flute.
ROTARY CUTTING BODY HAVING INSERT POCKET WITH SEAT SURFACE PROVIDED WITH A PLURALITY OF ABUTMENT ELEMENTS AND ROTARY CUTTING TOOL
A cutting body rotatable about a tool axis has an insert receiving pocket with a seat surface at an axial forward end thereof. The seat surface has a plurality of abutment elements, including an axial abutment element having an axially forward facing abutment surface and at least one radial abutment element. In a top view of the insert receiving pocket, the axially forward facing abutment surface forms an external acute clamping angle with a radially outward facing pocket wall. A rotary cutting tool includes the cutting body, and a cutting insert removably secured in the insert receiving pocket, having a base surface in contact with the seat surface. The at least one radial abutment element occupies or is occupied by at least one radial abutting element of the base surface, and the axially forward facing abutment surface is in contact with an axial abutting surface of the base surface.
END MILL HAVING TEETH AND ASSOCIATED FLUTES WITH CORRELATED PHYSICAL PARAMETERS
An end mill includes a plurality of teeth and flutes. The teeth and their associated flutes include one or more correlated physical parameters. One such correlated parameter is that, at an axial location in a front half of an effective cutting length, at least one tooth of the plurality of teeth has a rake angle smaller than an average rake angle value of the plurality of teeth, and, at the same axial location, a flute preceding each such tooth has a helix angle larger than an average helix angle value of the plurality of flutes.
End mill and method of manufacturing machined product
An end mill includes a bar-shaped body, a cutting edge, a gash, a first flute, and a second flute. The body extends from a first end to a second end along a rotation axis. The cutting edge is located at a side of the first end of the body. The gash is located adjacent to the cutting edge. The first flute surrounds the gash and spirally extends from the gash toward the second end. The second flute surrounds the first flute and spirally extends from the first flute toward the second end. A depth of the first flute is greater than a depth of the second flute in a cross section orthogonal to the rotation axis.
ROTARY CUTTING TOOL
The rotatable cutting tool includes a cutting portion extending from the front end and a mounting portion extending from the rear end. The cutting portion includes a front end face surface and a peripheral surface extending from the front end face surface towards the mounting portion. The peripheral surface includes first helical flutes extending from the front end to a first helical flute rear end and second helical flutes extending from a second helical flute front end to a second helical flute rear end. The first helical flutes are helically aligned about the longitudinal axis and form a first helix angle. The second helical flutes are helically aligned about the longitudinal axis and form a second helix angle. The first helix angle decreases in absolute value away from the front end and/or that the second helix angle increases in absolute value away from the front end.
End mill having a peripheral cutting edge with a variable angle configuration
An end mill for shouldering and/or slotting applications includes at least one tooth including a cutting edge. The cutting edge includes a first sub-edge extending rearwardly from a cutting end face and a second sub-edge extending rearwardly from the first sub-edge. An angle transition intersection defines where the first sub-edge ends and the second sub-edge starts. The angle transition intersection is located generally between 20% to 75% of an effective cutting length from a cutting end face and more specifically at a location within the general location where there is an increase in the rake angle and/or a significant increase in the helix angle of the cutting edge.
METAL CUTTING MILLING TOOL
A metal cutting milling tool includes a body having a front end, a plurality of land portions extending axially rearwards from the front end, and a plurality of chip rooms extending axially rearwards from the front end. Each land portion is delimited by a leading and a trailing surface. Each land portion includes an insert seat for receiving a cutting insert. Each chip room is positioned between two adjacent land portions and is delimited by a chip room surface having the trailing surface of first land portion, the leading surface of a second land portion and a bottom surface positioned between the trailing and leading surface. Each chip room surface has a curvature with a smallest radius. The smallest radius in a second cross section and the smallest radius in a third cross section are larger than the smallest radius in a first cross section.
