Various embodiments of the invention relate to a kit that makes cleaning cat litter boxes easier and more hygienic. The kit comprises numerous stacked filter sheets that can be gathered to form an enclosed bag by use of a drawstring that is threaded around the outer circumference of the filter sheet. Clean litter falls through the filter sheets and the soiled litter can be discarded along with the uppermost of the stacked filter sheets.

Such clumps preferably also have a crush strength of at least 15 PSI when dry. Sorbent well suited for use as litter is formed of granules or pellets having sizes falling within a plurality of different size ranges with the smaller sized fines causing the clumps to form on top of the litter extending generally horizontally along the litter.

A disposable pet litter tray is formed by a sheet member that defines end wall portions and side wall portions around a floor portion. A layer of pet material is disposed on the floor portion and covered with a retaining film or equivalent layer of material that is adhered to the floor portion around the layer of pet material. The end wall and side wall portions can be folded over the floor portion and pet material, and the assembly can then be rolled up for travel, storage, sale, and/or shipping, prior to use. To use the disposable pet tray, the assembly is unrolled, and the end wall and wall portions are then raised to be substantially perpendicular to the plane of the floor portion. Animal litter boxes are provided which include a sensor to detect a change in an environment within an interior of its housing and an odor removal device (ORD) operationally connected to the sensor such that the ORD is activated in response to a signal from the sensor. In some cases, the ORD is configured to operate in different manners based on respectively different signals from the sensor. In addition or alternatively, the litter boxes may include a timer configured with the sensor for activating and periodically reactivating the ORD at preset time intervals in response to a sensor signal. In yet other embodiments, the litter boxes may additionally or alternatively include a timer having user adjustable settings of different time periods at which to initiate activation of the ORD and/or user adjustable settings of different durations at which to operate the ORD, both in response from a sensor signal.
