Dabbing pulsed welding system and method

A pulsed welding regime includes a peak phase in which energy is added to an electrode and a weld puddle, and a molten ball begins to detach from the electrode, followed by a dabbing phase in which current is significantly reduced to place the ball in the weld puddle with addition of little or no energy. The resulting short circuit clears and the system proceeds to a background phase. The current in the dabbing phase is lower than the current during the background phase. The process may be specifically adapted for particular welding wires, and may be particularly well suited for use with cored wires. The dabbing phase allows for lower energy to be transferred to the sheath of such wires, and resets the arc length after each pulse cycle.

Method and device for detecting a welding wire diameter or welding wire composition in a welding device

A detection device for detecting a diameter and/or composition of a welding wire and/or welding electrode for a welding device, includes an oscillating circuit, which has a coil through which the welding wire and/or welding electrode can be passed. The device further include an evaluation unit connected to the oscillating circuit for determining at least one first oscillating circuit parameter which is characteristic of an attenuation of an oscillation signal occurring in the oscillating circuit, and at least one second oscillating circuit parameter which is characteristic of a signal frequency f of the oscillation signal occurring in the oscillating circuit. The evaluation unit detects the diameter and/or composition of the welding wire passed through the coil of the oscillating circuit and/or of the welding electrode using the determined oscillating circuit parameters.

Wire spool gun

A spool gun having a very unique look, due to its arrangement of external features. The spool gun has its wire spool compartment located below the handle and the user's hand, when the user is gripping the spool gun in an operational position. A gas/power cable is connected to the body of the spool gun forward of the handle.

A welding system includes a consumable electrode, torch, wire feeder, and power supply. The power supply is configured to provide a plurality of waveforms to the torch to generate a welding current in the electrode. Each of the plurality of waveforms includes a pinch current portion followed by an arcing current portion, and the pinch current portion is preceded by a first arc suppression portion and the arcing current portion is followed by a second arc suppression portion. An arc exists between the electrode and a workpiece during the arcing current portion, and an air gap without an arc exists between the consumable electrode and the workpiece during the arc suppression portions. The power supply is configured to detect a short between the electrode and workpiece and generate the pinch current portion when the short is detected, and the wire feeder stops feeding the electrode when the short is detected and restarts feeding the electrode after the short is clear.

Method for scanning the surface of metal workpieces

In a method for scanning the surface of metallic workpieces, during scanning, a welding torch with a consumable welding wire is moved over and towards the workpiece surface, until contact of the welding wire with the workpiece is detected, and the welding wire is subsequently moved away from the workpiece. Before scanning, slag-removal is carried out to remove slag at the welding wire end, wherein the welding current is lowered to a minimum, and the welding wire is moved cyclically with a rapid recurrent forward/backward movement over a specified path length toward the workpiece, and by a smaller distance away from the workpiece, until a short circuit between the welding wire and the workpiece is detected, whereupon slag-removal is ended, and upon the detection of no short circuit, slag-removal is repeated, and upon the detection of several short circuits one after the other, slag-removal is ended.

ARC WELDING CONTROL METHOD

In controlling an arc welding of consumable electrode type in which pulse welding and short-circuit welding alternately repeat, forward feeding and backward feeding of a welding electrode periodically repeat in a short-circuit welding period. The forward feeding of the welding electrode starts when a welding current is smaller than a base current immediately before a pulse period ends.
