Detection of friction stir welding defects using specific damping capacity

A method for determining a quality of a friction stir welded seam is described. The method involves applying an impact to a welded plate and comparing its damping capacity with the damping capacity of a geometrically equivalent defect-free plate. Damping capacities that differ by a small percent difference indicate that the welded plate is also defect-free. This method is particularly advantageous when dealing with small defects, which produce miniscule changes in natural frequency which may not be measureable.

Terminal connecting method

A terminal connecting method includes setting a conductor having a plurality of strands on an upper surface of a bottom portion of an electric wire crimping part of a terminal, caulking the conductor in a manner to cover the conductor, thereby crimping the conductor by a caulking portion extended from the bottom portion, and welding the plurality of strands together in a strands exposed portion of the conductor exposed from tip end edges of the caulking portion by friction between the plurality of strands and a friction tool, after caulking and crimping.

In order to produce a clutch pack (3), clutch plates are cut from an electrical steel strip or sheet, arranged on top of one another to form the clutch pack (3) and connected to one another within the clutch pack (3). The material of the clutch plates is locally plasticised in the edge region via the generation of frictional heat by means of at least one tool (9′), in such a way that the material of at least adjacent clutch plates is mixed with the tool (9′) such that, after the plasticised material has cooled, these clutch plates are integrally connected to one another. The device used for this purpose has at least one punch press and/or at least one receiving means for one or more clutch packs (3). In addition, the device has at least one welding tool that is rotatably driven about its axis and can be moved in a transverse direction to its rotational axis.

SOLID-STATE JOINING OF FEATURES TO CAST PARTS

PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING A BIMETALLIC PART USING A DILATION-CAUSING THERMAL TREATMENT

A process for manufacturing a bimetallic part by means of a first component formed by a first aluminum alloy and a second component formed by a second aluminum alloy, said process involving: assembling the first component and the second component to obtain an assembled part; applying a thermal treatment to the assembled part at a temperature of 100 to 250° C., the thermal treatment causing the assembled part to deform, in particular as a result of a metallurgical deformation by a precipitation of hardening phases of the first component and/or the second component; cooling the part to ambient temperature, upon which the part remains deformed. The process involves, prior to the assembling step, an estimation of the degree of deformation that the assembled part will undergo under the effect of the thermal treatment.
