In a method of laser welding, a solid metal component is placed in contact with a porous metal component at an interface region, a laser beam is directed onto the solid metal component to cause heating and melting of one or more portions of the solid metal component in the interface region, and the melted metal portions flow into interstices in the porous metal component and then solidify by cooling such that portions of the porous metal component adjacent the interstices are integrated into the metal of the solid metal component thereby bonding the solid metal component and the porous metal component.

A system that uses a scalable array of individually controllable laser beams that are generated by a fiber array system to process materials into an object. The adaptive control of individual beams may include beam power, focal spot width, centroid position, scanning orientation, amplitude and frequency, piston phase and polarization states of individual beams. Laser beam arrays may be arranged in a two dimensional cluster and configured to provide a pre-defined spatiotemporal laser power density distribution, or may be arranged linearly and configured to provide oscillating focal spots along a wide processing line. These systems may also have a set of material sensors that gather information on a material and environment immediately before, during, and immediately after processing, or a set of thermal management modules that pre-heat and post-heat material to control thermal gradient, or both.

Laser assisted micromachining system and temperature control method using same

A laser assisted micromachining system, includes a working sliding, a tool module, a laser module, and a temperature control module for the processing of a workpiece. The laser module is disposed in the working slide and moves with the working slide in three-dimensional space. The temperature control module includes a temperature sensor, a cooler, a controller and a coolant, which detects the real-time temperature value of the cooler. The cooler is located in the working slide and supports the tool module. The controller controls the working state of the cooler according to the temperature feedback. Control signal induced by the temperature indicator, and the working state of the cooler are controlled by the controller. The coolant is used to control the temperature distribution of the cooler in the setting range. At the same time, the invention also provides a temperature control method for the laser assisted micro machining system.

Instead, the power supplies include one or more thermal interfaces configured to conduct heat generated by internal circuitry of the power supply from the interior of the power supply to an exterior of the power supply. Additionally, the thermal interface(s) may be configured for attachment to one or more exterior heat dissipating devices.

The method may further include advancing a first portion of the continuous part from the second zone to a third zone while (1) a last portion of the continuous part is formed within the first zone and (2) the first portion is maintained in the same position in the lateral and transverse directions that the first portion occupied within the first zone and the second zone.
