Methods and apparatus for repairing a tubular structure
Apparatuses and methods for repairing a defect in a nuclear reactor are provided. The apparatus includes a body for insertion in a tubular structure, the body includes: an end effector having a weld torch operable to deposit weld material by forming molten weld droplets and depositing the weld droplets the tubular structure. A drive unit includes a brace for selectively anchoring against said tubular structure; at least one linear actuator for moving the apparatus relative to the brace; and a rotational actuator coupled to rotate the weld torch. The method includes inserting a repair apparatus into tubular structure of the nuclear reactor; moving the repair apparatus to a defect location; depositing a protective weld layer over the defect by sequentially depositing weld droplets atop a weld pool on the tubular structure, wherein the protective weld layer bonds to the tubular structure surrounding the defect.
Vacuum thermal insulation panel and method of producing the same
It is an object of the present invention to provide a method of producing a vacuum thermal insulation panel capable of reducing the occurrence probability of poor welding of a metal outer wrapping material. The method of producing the vacuum thermal insulation panels 100, 100A to 100 D, 101, 101A according to the present invention includes a “covering step of covering a core material 110 or 110B with a metal foil 130 or 131” and a “welding step of welding a metal foil portion on an outer side of the core material”, and the core material is at least partially covered with a cover 120, 120A, or 120D at a timing when the covering step is to be started. Note that when the entire surface of the core material is covered with the cover, it is preferable to reduce the inside of the cover to seal the cover before the covering step, and when a part of the core material is covered with the cover, it is preferable to simultaneously reduce a pressure inside the metal foil and a pressure inside the cover to seal the metal foil.
Guidewire having varying diameters and method of making
A method of making a medical guidewire including providing a wire having a length that includes a proximal length and a distal length. The method further includes applying cold work to the distal length and not applying cold work to the proximal length, thereby imparting to the distal length a diameter that is smaller than the proximal length diameter; and applying a reducing process to the wire whereby the proximal length is reduced to have an outer diameter that is the same as the outer diameter of the distal length. The proximal length has an inner diameter and the distal length has an inner diameter that is less than the inner diameter of the proximal length.
ULTRASONIC WELDING OF DISSIMILAR SHEET MATERIALS
A ultrasonic welding method of joining dissimilar-material workpieces, such as sheet materials, and the joined components formed thereby. The method includes applying ultrasonic energy to a thermoplastic piece to fill a hole of a dissimilar piece to form a weld point that is made up with polymer from the thermoplastic piece. In general, the geometry of the thermoplastic piece is not altered during the process. The dissimilar piece generally has a higher melting temperate and can be metal, thermoset polymers, or other thermoplastic material. The welded pieces can be arranged in a lap, laminate, or double lap configuration. In some embodiments, the hole of the dissimilar sheet material includes undercut features that improve the mechanical interlock between the dissimilar pieces. In some embodiments, the weld point has a mushroom cap to improve mechanical interlock.
Component of a Brake for a Vehicle and Method for Its Manufacturing
A component of a brake for a vehicle, having a metallic base body with a surface provided with a coating which includes an intermediate layer lying on the base body and a covering layer lying on the intermediate layer. The covering layer is formed from a stainless steel matrix with hard material particles embedded therein. The hard material particles embedded in the stainless steel matrix have an average grain diameter of 10-125 μm and have a non-melted core region consisting of uninfluenced material of the hard material particles, which core region is surrounded at least in sections by a mixing zone formed from material of the stainless steel matrix and material of the respective hard material particle, via which mixing zone the hard material particles are in each case materially bonded to the stainless steel matrix. Also, a method by which a component coated in this way is produced.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING CIRCUMFERENTIAL WELD JOINT FOR LOW-CARBON MARTENSITIC STAINLESS STEEL PIPES (AS AMENDED)
Provided is a method for producing a circumferential weld joint. With this method, when low-carbon martensitic stainless steel pipes used for pipelines for transportation of petroleum and natural gas are subjected to circumferential welding, the circumferential welding can be performed efficiently using a low-cost welding material having a composition similar to the composition of the low-carbon martensitic stainless steel pipes. Pipe ends of low-carbon martensitic stainless steel pipes containing prescribed components are butted against each other and subjected to multi-pass arc welding using a welding material containing prescribed components. In the first pass in the multi-pass arc welding, CMT welding is performed in which the welding material is moved back and forth against a molten pool to generate an arc intermittently. In the second and subsequent passes, one selected from GMA welding, GTA welding, and the CMT welding is performed.
CONTAINER FOR DISTILLED SPIRITS AND METHOD FOR MAKING THE SAME
A container for distilled spirits includes a stainless steel body, stainless steel top element and stainless steel bottom element wherein the body, top element and body element are joined together without solder such that the flavor of the distilled spirits therein is preserved. A method of making the container is also disclosed.
