Piston actuated rotary union
10502349 · 2019-12-10 · ·

A rotary union includes a housing forming a bore and a piston bore having an open end and disposed at a radially offset distance with respect to the bore. The piston bore is fluidly isolated from the bore. A seal carrier is slidably disposed within the bore, and includes an actuation arm extending radially outwardly relative to the bore such that it overlaps the piston bore. A piston slidably disposed in the piston bore is extendible to releasably abut the actuation arm and urge the seal carrier to displace relative to the bore when the piston displaces relative to the piston bore.

System for detecting a partial or total obstruction of at least one internal pipe of a tool

The invention primarily relates to a system (10) for detecting a total or partial obstruction of at least one internal fluid pipe (11) of a tool (12), characterized in that said system (10) comprises: a pneumatic system (13) that is intended to be connected upstream of said internal pipe (11) of said tool (12), a pressure source (16) that is connected to said pneumatic system (13) by means of a solenoid valve (17), and a control unit (22) that is configured to open said solenoid valve (17) so as to pressurize said pneumatic system (13), and then to close said solenoid valve (17) so as to let said pneumatic system (13) be emptied freely by means of said internal pipe (11), and to detect an obstruction state of said internal pipe (11) depending on an analysis over time of a change in the pressure in said pneumatic system (13).

A cutting tool holding mechanism for detachably holding a cutting tool includes: a collet chuck configured to clamp and unclamp the cutting tool; a piston disposed deeper on the proximal side of the spindle than the collet chuck and configured to urge the collet chuck by the pressure of a fluid supplied from the proximal side of the spindle in the direction from the proximal side toward the distal end side of the spindle so that the collet chuck unclamps the cutting tool; a spool valve provided in the piston and configured to open thanks to centrifugal force at the time when the spindle is turned, so as to supply the fluid fed from the spindle side to the cutting tool.

Temperature management for a cryogenically cooled boring tool
10413977 · 2019-09-17 · ·

A cryogenically cooled boring tool design reduces the effect of cryogen coolant on a workpiece caused by coolant leakage and coolant exhaust. A tool body has a cartridge for holding a cutting tool insert and a coolant supply path through the tool body and the cartridge for supplying cryogenic coolant to the tool insert. A feed transfer tube connects the coolant supply path in the tool body to the coolant supply path in the cartridge. Insulating tubes line portions of the coolant supply paths in the tool body and the cartridge. The shrinkage rates of the feed transfer tube and the insulating tubes cause the press fit of the insulating tubes to tighten the seal between the insulating tubes and the feed transfer tube when cryogenic coolant flows through the supply path. The exhaust ports on the tool for boiled-off cryogen remains outside of a workpiece bore.

Extraction apparatus

An extraction apparatus (20) for a cutting machine (10). The extraction apparatus (20) comprises first and second portions (21, 22) rotatable one relative to the other for angular movement between two opposed positions. A slidable coupling (27) defines a fluid flow path (29) for fluid communication between the first and second portions (21, 22) during said angular movement between the two opposed positions, whereby fluid can flow from the interior (45) of the first portion (21) into the second portion (22). The slidable coupling (27) comprises first and second coupling sections (61, 62) slidable one with respect to the other. The second coupling section (62) is hollow to define an open interior (63). The first coupling section (61) defines a duct (65) opening onto the interior (63) of the second coupling section (62), whereby the duct (65) and the interior (63) of the second coupling section (62) cooperate to define the fluid flow path (29).
