Provided is a clamp device of an indexing apparatus that indexes a main shaft, which is rotatably supported in an accommodation hole of a frame via a bearing, to a set angular position by rotating the main shaft by using a driving device. The clamp device includes a working channel that connects an air supply device, which supplies compressed air, to a pressure chamber in the clamp device. The clamp device operates to retain an angular position of the main shaft when compressed air is supplied from the air supply device. The clamp device includes a pressure transmitting portion that is interposed in the working channel and in which a piston is slidably disposed. A portion of the working channel on the pressure chamber side of the piston in the pressure transmitting portion is filled with an incompressible fluid.

A rotation table mounted on a machining table of a machine tool includes a clamping mechanism which is driven by air so as to clamp a rotation shaft, and an air purging pressure is applied into a casing so as to prevent a cutting fluid or foreign matter from intruding into the casing of the rotation table. Then, air discharged from the clamping mechanism does not pass through the casing, to which the air purging pressure is applied, and is discharged to the outside of the rotation table through a flow passage.

A rotation table mounted on a machining table of a machine tool includes a clamping mechanism which is driven by air so as to clamp a rotation shaft, and an air purging pressure is applied into a casing so as to prevent a cutting fluid or foreign matter from intruding into the casing of the rotation table. The spindle unit comprises: a spindle shaft rotatably supported in a housing, a chucking device disposed at the spindle shaft for clamping a workpiece or a tool, a motor drive connected to the spindle shaft for driving the spindle shaft around a drive axis, a clamping device for clamping the spindle shaft at a freely selectable angular position around the drive axis, wherein the clamping device is disposed between the spindle shaft and a stationary part of the spindle unit, and an actuating device for actuating and/or releasing the clamping device. The clamping device can be axially actuated in the direction of the drive axis such that an axial or substantial axial clamping force acts in the direction of the drive axis with the clamping device being actuated.

A cutting apparatus adapted for use in a machine tool. The cutting apparatus includes a mounting frame. A cutting unit is mounted rotatably in the mounting frame. A locking unit is connected to the mounting frame and the cutting unit, for restraining or permitting relative movement between the mounting frame and the cutting unit. A driving unit drives rotation of the cutting unit. A control unit controls the driving unit to drive rotation of the rotating shaft upon detecting that the relative movement between the mounting frame and the cutting unit is permitted. The control unit shuts off the driving unit upon detecting that the relative movement between the mounting frame and the cutting unit is restrained.

A clamping mechanism of rotation table device includes a shaft fixing a workpiece to an end portion thereof, a brake disk fixed to the shaft, and a clamping mechanism clamping or unclamping the brake disk by driving a piston. The clamping mechanism includes a plate spring fixed to a rear plate fixed to a casing and a piston and urging the piston in a clamping direction at all times by an elastic deformation restoring force and the plate spring is fixed to the rear plate or the piston through an annular plate.
