Glass object and method for forming a depression in a glass object for containing cremated ashes
11135696 · 2021-10-05 ·

A method for forming a depression into a glass object for storing cremated remains may include coating a metal sphere with diamond dust. The method may include spinning the diamond dust coated metal sphere via a spindle and motor arrangement. The method further may include pressing the spinning diamond dust coated metal sphere against at least one face of the glass object. Furthermore, the method may include applying coolant while pressing the spinning diamond dust coated metal sphere against at least one face of the glass object. The continuous spin and pressure of the diamond dust coated metal sphere against at least one face of the glass object grinds the depression into the glass object.

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR GLASS LAMINATE EDGE FINISHING AND GLASS LAMINATES FORMED THEREBY

An apparatus for finishing a cut edge of a glass laminate includes a support including a surface and an edge, a rail disposed adjacent the support and extending substantially parallel to the edge, a carrier coupled to the rail, and a finishing tool coupled to the carrier and including an abrasive surface positioned adjacent the edge. The carrier is translatable along the rail to translate the abrasive surface relative to the edge. A method includes securing a glass laminate to a support and contacting a cut edge of the glass laminate with an abrasive surface of a finishing tool coupled to a carrier. The carrier is translated along a rail to move the abrasive surface along the cut edge of the glass laminate and transform the cut edge into a finished edge. The glass laminate can have an edge strength of at least about 100 MPa.

POLISHING AGENT FOR SYNTHETIC QUARTZ GLASS SUBSTRATE, METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE POLISHING AGENT, AND METHOD FOR POLISHING SYNTHETIC QUARTZ GLASS SUBSTRATE

A polishing agent for a synthetic quartz glass substrate contains polishing particles and water. The polishing particles are composite oxide particles of cerium and yttrium. A content by percent of the cerium in the polishing particles is 71 mol % or more and 79 mol % or less. This provides a polishing agent for a synthetic quartz glass substrate, the polishing agent being capable of sufficiently reducing generation of defects on the surface of the synthetic quartz glass substrate due to polishing without decreasing the polishing rate.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR EDGE PROCESSING OF GLASS FOR LIGHT COUPLING

Methods and apparatus for finishing an edge of a glass sheet are described. The edge of the glass sheet is finished using two grinding wheels mounted on spindles so that the edge of the grinding wheels chamfer the edge of the glass sheet during relative movement of the grinding wheels and the glass sheet.

Display device and method of fabricating the same

A display device includes first and second substrates each including a short side and a long side, ground parts located on at least one of the short and long sides of each of the first and second substrates and including at least one first ground surfaces, which are perpendicular to opposing surfaces of the first and second substrates, and at least one second ground surfaces, which are provided at at least one edge of the second substrate to define an obtuse angle with reference to the first ground surfaces, and unevenness disposed on the first ground surfaces along a first direction, where the unevenness defines an acute angle with reference to a normal line to the opposing surfaces.

A glass blank is cut out from a glass plate by forming a crack starting portion inside the glass plate by moving a first laser beam relative to the glass plate such that a focal position of the laser beam is located in an inner portion of the glass plate in its thickness direction and the focal position forms a circle when viewed from a surface of the glass plate, then causing cracks to develop from the crack starting portion toward main surfaces of the glass plate, and splitting the glass plate to separate, from the glass plate, a glass blank that includes a separation surface having an arithmetic average surface roughness Ra smaller than 0.01 m and a roundness not larger than 15 m. Thereafter, main surfaces of the glass blank are ground or polished.
