Abrasive article

Abrasive articles, along with related compositions and methods, are provided. A first aspect relates to an abrasive article comprising a backing and an abrasive layer disposed on a major surface of the backing. The abrasive layer comprises a particulate mixture comprising formed abrasive particles and diluent abrasive particles. Based on the overall weight of the particulate mixture, about 0 wt. % to less than 10 wt. % formed abrasive particles having a substantially monodisperse particle size of from about 80 micrometers to about 120 micrometers; and about greater than 90 wt. % to about 99 wt. % diluent abrasive particles having a median particle size of from about 50 micrometers to about 250 micrometers.

Abrasive article and method of grinding

An abrasive article includes a backing, abrasive particles secured to the backing, and a size coat provided over the abrasive particles, the size coat comprises a binder resin, at least one filler material and at least one lubricant material having a melting temperature of at least about 200 degrees F. A method of grinding aluminum using such an abrasive article is also described.

COATED ABRASIVES HAVING AGGREGATES

The present disclosure relates generally to coated abrasive articles that include a grinding aid aggregates in a make coat, a size coat, a supersize coat, or combinations thereof, as well as methods of making coated abrasive articles.

ABRASIVE ARTICLE AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME

An abrasive article comprises a porous substrate having openings extending through the porous substrate between first and second opposed major surfaces. An abrasive coating is disposed on only a portion of a first major surface of the porous substrate. The abrasive coating comprises a functional layer disposed on only a portion of a first major surface of the porous substrate, a make layer disposed on at least a portion of the functional layer opposite the porous substrate, and abrasive particles. The functional layer and the make layer independently comprise chemically crosslinked binders. The functional layer fully occludes a first portion the openings and does not fully occlude a second portion of the openings, which permits passage of abraded swarf through the abrasive article. Methods of making the abrasive article are also disclosed.

Large denier nonwoven fiber webs

Various embodiments disclosed relate to an abrasive article. The abrasive article includes a nonwoven web. The non-woven web includes a first irregular major surface and an opposite second irregular major surface. The nonwoven web further includes a fiber component comprising staple fibers having a linear density ranging from about 50 denier to about 2000 denier and a crimp index value ranging from about 15% to about 60%. The nonwoven web further includes a binder dispensed on the fiber component and abrasive particles dispersed throughout the nonwoven web.

A compoundless buff and method of making a compoundless buff using a coating solution formulated with abrasive particles dispersed or suspended using a surfactant or suspension agent and which also contains a self-crosslinking acrylic binder emulsion that binds abrasive particles to nonwoven cloth of a buffing article when the coating solution is applied thereto forming a relatively hard abrasive-containing coating that enables the buffing article to abrasively treat a surface without having to separately apply any buffing or polishing compound. A preferred coating solution formulation further contains a lubricant emulsion that produces a lubricant and abrasive-containing coating of the buff having lubricant interspersed with binder and abrasive particles thereby reducing friction during buffing or polishing. A preferred coating solution also contains at least one surfactant to disperse the abrasive, suspension agent to keep the abrasive suspended, and buffering agent to keep the pH of the solution so it remains flowable.

Abrasive buffing articles

The present disclosure relates to abrasive buffing articles (“abrasive buffs”) and methods of making the same. The abrasive buffs include a substrate, such as a fabric, that has been impregnated with an abrasive polymeric composition that includes abrasive particles, such as primary abrasive particles and/or abrasive aggregates, such as spray dried abrasive aggregates. The abrasive buffs are flexible and capable of conforming to and effectively abrading, polishing, and buffing workpieces possessing a complex geometry.

POLISHING PAD CONDITIONER AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

The present invention relates to a polishing pad conditioner and a manufacturing method thereof. The polishing pad conditioner includes a substrate, an abrasive layer and a protective layer. The abrasive layer covers the surface of the substrate. The abrasive layer includes a bonding layer and a plurality of abrasive particles embedded in the bonding layer. Each of the abrasive particles has a protrusion exposed out of the bonding layer, and the protrusion is insulated. The protective layer covers the surface of the bonding layer, and the protrusion is exposed out of the protective layer. The polishing pad conditioner of the present invention can protect the bonding layer from being damaged by abrasion and hold the abrasive particles, avoid the abrasive particles from falling off or out of position, and maintain the polishing effect and service life of the polishing pad conditioner.

METHOD FOR DEPOSITING ABRASIVE PARTICLES

The disclosure relates to, among other things, a method of making a coated abrasive article, the method comprising sequentially: locating a plurality of shaped abrasive particles in a tool comprising a plurality of cavities, wherein the plurality of shaped abrasive particles is held in the plurality of cavities, at least in part, electrostatically; and disposing the plurality of shaped abrasive particles onto a make layer precursor of a backing having first and second opposed major surfaces, wherein the make layer precursor is disposed on at least a portion of the first major surface.

Coated abrasives having aggregates

The present disclosure relates generally to coated abrasive articles that include a grinding aid aggregates in a make coat, a size coat, a supersize coat, or combinations thereof, as well as methods of making coated abrasive articles.
