SUBSTRATES FOR POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND CUTTERS WITH UNIQUE PROPERTIES
A compact, a superabrasive compact and a method of making the compact and superabrasive compact are disclosed. A compact may include a plurality of carbide particles, a binder, and a species. The binder may be dispersed among the plurality of tungsten carbide particles. The species may be dispersed in the compact, wherein the binder has a melting point from about 600° C. to about 1350° C. at ambient pressure. A superabrasive compact may include a diamond table and a substrate. The diamond table may be attached to the substrate. The substrate may have a binder. The melting point of the binder is from about 600° C. to about 1350° C. at high pressure from about 30 kbar to about 100 kbar.
Binder for the fabrication of diamond tools
This invention relates to powder metallurgy, more specifically, to methods of fabricating hard alloy items. The invention can be used as an iron, cobalt or nickel base binder for the fabrication of diamond cutting tools for the construction industry and stone cutting, including segmented cutting discs of different designs and wires for reinforced concrete and asphalt cutting used in the renovation of highway pavements, runways in airports, upgrading of metallurgical plants, nuclear power plants, bridges and other structures, monolithic reinforced concrete cutting drills, as well as discs and wires for the quarry production of natural stone and large scale manufacturing of facing construction materials. This invention achieves the objective of providing binders for the fabrication of diamond tools having higher wear resistance without a significant increase in the sintering temperature, as well as higher hardness, strength and impact toughness. The achievement of these objectives by adding an iron group metal as the main component of the binder composition and alloying additives in the form of nanosized powder in accordance with this invention is illustrated with several examples of different type binders for the fabrication of diamond tools.

Liquid-metal-embrittlement resistant superabrasive compacts
A superabrasive compact (e.g., a polycrystalline diamond compact) including a substrate and at least one feature for reducing the susceptibility of the substrate to liquid metal embrittlement during brazing operations is disclosed. The superabrasive compact may include a region between the substrate and a superabrasive table in which residual tensile stresses are located. The at least one feature may reduce the susceptibility of the substrate to liquid metal embrittlement by altering the stress state and/or substantially preventing the substrate from being wetted at the residual stress region.

Outer blade cutting wheel and making method
In an outer blade cutting wheel comprising an annular thin disc base of cemented carbide having an outer diameter of 80-200 mm, an inner diameter of 30-80 mm, and a thickness of 0.1-1.0 mm, and a blade section disposed on an outer periphery of the base, the blade section comprises diamond grains and/or CBN grains bound with a metal bond having a Young's modulus of 0.7-4.0×10.sup.11 Pa and has a thickness which is greater than the thickness of the base by at least 0.01 mm. The outer blade cutting wheel is capable of cutting a workpiece at a high accuracy and a reduced allowance, improves machining yields, and reduces machining costs.
