A device for treating substrates has a separation system, with which processed substrates can be separated into one or more waste parts and at least one blank. The device for treating substrates offers improved flexibility. The separation system comprises a transport cylinder and a stripping cylinder associated therewith. The transport cylinder is able to secure replaceable packing, along with first and second openings which, when the packing is secured, are covered at least partially by perforations that may be formed in the packing. A first air supply supplies air to the first openings and a second air supply supplies air to the second openings independently of the supply of the air to the first openings. The first and the second air supply are switchable between a suction air supply and a blower air supply.

A rotary tool ejection technology utilizing air to eject contents from the dies of a rotary cylinder. The dies include orifices positioned therein. The orifices are assembled with porous material. The orifices are capable of receiving air from an internal chamber and delivering it to the outer surface of a rotary cylinder. Air is supplied to the internal chamber by an internal shaft. The internal shaft contains a channel in fluid communication with outlets extending radially outward from the channel to locations on the outer surface of the shaft. The shaft is optionally assembled with a manifold having a conduit. The conduit is positioned for intermittent alignment with the orifices in the rotary cylinder as the rotary cylinder rotates relative to the manifold.

Trim removal system

An apparatus uses forced air to remove trim from cut sheets during a converting process. The apparatus may include a plurality of wheels, arranged to allow trim to fall between the wheels, and one or more air chambers, configured to propel air toward the sheets as they are conveyed on the wheels in order to remove trim from the sheets. A method may include conveying sheet stock on wheels arranged to allow trim to fall through them, and propelling air toward the sheet stock with air chambers such that trim is removed from the sheet stock by the propelled air.

The debris may be controlled by being drawn into the cavity prior to the point where the blade engages the anvil and, subsequently, being expelled after the point where the blade engages the anvil bead.

A rotary die-cutter for cutting a piece of material or scrap out of a printing material such as paper, includes a die-cutting cylinder and an associated impression cylinder. The die-cutting cylinder is connected to a vacuum source. A die-cutting tool which is disposed on the die-cutting cylinder includes at least one die-cutting knife having a closed form and a suction opening within the closed form. A cylinder cover is disposed on the impression cylinder. At least one raised or recessed first guide element is disposed within the closed form for guiding suction air and/or at least one recessed or raised second guide element is disposed in the cylinder cover for guiding air. The scrap to be removed from the printing material can therefore be transported with the die-cutting cylinder and ejected from the die-cutting tool or knife in a trouble-free way.

A safety cover is provided for a cutter head or punch head of the type used in making holes and slits in plastic film, so that the punch head may be transported, stored, installed or removed without exposing the sharp cutting blades to an operator's hands. The safety cover may be of a box-like construction with a generally keyhole-shaped opening formed on its upper wall. The keyhole opening has a wider portion open to the distal or machine side, a narrow slot portion, and a round portion that accommodates the round punch blade of the punch head.
