Device and method for processing substrates

A device for processing substrates uses a separation system. Processed substrates can be separated into one or more waste parts and at least one blank. Improved flexibility for treating substrates is provided. The separation system comprises a transport cylinder and a stripping cylinder associated therewith. The transport cylinder has first openings and has a detachably secured packing having depressions in which perforations are formed, with at least one perforation covering at least one first opening. The stripping cylinder has a detachably secured packing having raised areas that correspond to the depressions.

A cutter assembly includes a rotatable cutting head carrying outwardly extending cutter blades, as well as a rotatable drive hub and interconnected spring housing. The drive hub has a bearing housing, whereas spring housing includes coil spring. The spring housing is operably coupled with the cutting head, in a manner such that the spring exerts an unrestrained force against the cutting head and blades so that there is unrestrained movement of these components toward the outlet face of an extruder die plate. Consequently, there is a substantially constant self-adjusting force exerted on the cutter and blades against the plate, which promotes cleaner cutting of extrudate, even in the event that there is a degree of misalignment between the cutting edges and the outer surface of die plate. This arrangement lengthens the service life of the blades and the die plate.

The press roller spacing adjustment mechanism comprises a shift adjusting mechanism for adjusting a large spacing between the press rollers and a fine adjustment mechanism for adjusting a fine spacing between the press rollers. The shift adjustment mechanism drives the first sliding retainer to move along the slide groove, and the fine adjustment mechanism drives the second sliding retainer to move along the slide groove, so that the spacing between the press rollers can be quickly and largely adjusted according to the needs, and a fine spacing adjustment can be achieved according to the needs.

The transport cylinder is able to secure replaceable packing, along with first and second openings which, when the packing is secured, are covered at least partially by perforations that may be formed in the packing. A first air supply supplies air to the first openings and a second air supply supplies air to the second openings independently of the supply of the air to the first openings. The first and the second air supply are switchable between a suction air supply and a blower air supply.
