One aspect of the invention provides a method of generating ultraviolet radiation. The method includes: introducing a mixture of nitrogen gas and helium gas into a dielectric barrier discharge device including a high voltage electrode and a ground electrode separated by a gap and a dielectric; and applying suitable electricity to the high voltage electrode, thereby generating ultraviolet radiation. Another aspect of the invention provides a plasma- and ultraviolet-generating nozzle including: a dielectric barrier discharge device; and a controller programmed to control flows of gas into the dielectric barrier discharge device and application of suitable electricity to the dielectric barrier discharge device to selectively generate either plasma or ultraviolet radiation. Another aspect of the invention provides a printing system including: a motion control system; and the plasma- and ultraviolet-generating nozzle as described herein coupled to the motion control system.
WEATHERABLE FIRST SURFACE OVER A TIE LAYER OVER A PULTRUDED SUBSTRATE
The invention relates to a multilayered pultruded structure having a weatherable cap layer over a pultruded substrate, adhered with an appropriate tie layer. The structure provides improved weatherability and surface quality for pultruded structures. The invention is especially useful to provide a weatherable pultruded polyurethane, with an acrylic or styrenic cap layer. The weatherable polyurethane (PU) pultrusion of the invention provides an increased modulus over polyester pultrusions, making the weatherable PU pultrusion useful in commercial applications, and applications requiring a higher transverse modulus.

Provided are an electron beam curable resin composition including polymethylpentene, and a crosslinking agent, in which the crosslinking agent has a saturated or unsaturated ring structure, at least one atom among atoms forming at least one ring is bonded to any allylic substituent of an allyl group, a methallyl group, an allyl group through a linking group, and a methallyl group through a linking group, and a molecular weight is 1,000 or less, a resin frame for reflectors using the resin composition, a reflector, and a molding method using the resin composition.
METHOD OF USE OF POLYLACTIDE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A HEAT-SEALED PAPER OR BOARD CONTAINER OR PACKAGE
The invention relates to use of polylactide (PLA) as an extruded polymer coating on paper or board intended for the production of containers and packages, which are heated in a stove or microwave oven. According to the invention a polyfunctional cross-linking agent, such as trialkyl isocyanureate (TAIC), is blended with PLA, and the extruded coating layer is subjected to cross-linking electron beam (EB) radiation. PLA may be used as such or blended with another biodegradable polyester such as polybutylene succinate (PBS). EB radiation has been found to improve adhesion of the coating to the paper or board substrate, heat-scalability of the coating, and heat-resistance of the finished containers and packages.
PROCESS FOR TREATING A REINFORCING ELEMENT HAVING A FLATTENED CROSS-SECTION
A reinforcing element, having a cross section with a flattened overall shape and extending in a main direction and comprising at least one lateral edge made of a polymeric composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer, the lateral edge extending in a general direction substantially parallel to the main direction is treated by heating at least a part of the lateral edge, during which at least a part of the lateral edge is subjected to a plasma flow so as to raise the temperature of the part of the lateral edge above the melting point of the thermoplastic polymer.
TRANSFER FILM, COMPONENT, AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF
A transfer film (1), in particular for decorating casing components for motor vehicles or domestic appliances, including a carrier ply (3) with at least one carrier layer (31) and a transfer ply (2) arranged on the carrier ply (3), wherein the transfer ply (2) has a protective layer composite (21) including a first protective layer (5) and at least one receiving layer (4) for coating the transfer ply (2) in a coatable region (41) with at least one coating (6), wherein the at least one receiving layer (4) is arranged on the first protective layer (5) and wherein the at least one receiving layer (4) is arranged against a first surface of the transfer ply (2) facing towards the carrier ply (3). A method for producing a transfer film, as well as a component and a method for the production thereof using a transfer film.
AROMATIC POLYETHERKETONE MOLDED BODY AND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME
[Object] To provide a technology capable of further improving the performance of an aromatic polyetherketone molded body.
[Solving Means] An aromatic polyetherketone molded body includes: a body portion; and a surface layer portion covering the body portion. An infrared absorption spectrum is obtained by measurement using an infrared spectrophotometer for both the body portion and the surface layer portion, the infrared absorption spectrum including a peak A and a peak B, the peak A appearing in a wavenumber range of 1295 to 1340 cm.sup.1, the peak B appearing in a wavenumber range of 1265 to 1295 cm.sup.1. A ratio A/B of strength A of the peak A to strength B of the peak B is higher in the surface layer portion than in the body portion.
