Agricultural implement having power assist carrier wheels

An agricultural planter which provides an improved method for extending and retracting the wing boom and which has improved maneuverability is disclosed. A drive member is provided that drives one or more of the carrier wheels on the agricultural planter. The drive member may be, for example, a hydraulic motor or an electric motor. When a wing boom is extended or retracted between the transport position and the working position, a controller generates a command signal to the drive member to drive one or more of the carrier wheels forward or reverse, thereby assisting the draft links in retracting or extending the telescoping portion of the hitch assembly and in extending or retracting the booms. During operation, the controller may similarly generate a command to the drive member to drive one or more of the carrier wheels either in forward or reverse according to the operation of the towing vehicle.

The fold gate can be rotatable between a transport position in which the fold gate is parallel to the main carrier and a field position in which the fold gate is parallel to the main carrier. Rotating the fold gate into the transport position can pivot the wing about the inner wing tow bar into a parallel orientation relative to the frame member. Rotating the fold gate into the field position can pivots the wing about the inner wing tow bar into a transverse orientation relative to the frame member.

An agricultural harvesting system including a chassis, a plurality of ground support devices carrying the chassis in a direction of travel, and a threshing section carried by the chassis. The threshing section produces residue that is sent to a spreader system. The spreader system has a first orientation and a second orientation. The spreader system includes a support device and a spreader. The support device is in ground contact and is positioned to a side of the chassis relative to the direction of travel when the spreader system is in the first orientation. The support device is positioned aft of the chassis relative to the direction of travel when the spreader system is in the second orientation. The spreader is carried by the support device and is configured to receive at least some of the residue.

A transport wheel rotating assembly is provided to rotate the transport wheels about a pivot point such that the transport wheels will adjust the height of the implement, and also increase or decrease the length of the wheelbase between the tractor tires and the transport tires to increase the maneuverability and transportability of the implement both within a field and outside a field. The assembly includes a linkage and a cylinder connected to the implement.

A biasing linkage is provided in series with each hydraulic actuator to provide positive pressure to retain the brace member in a latched position as the wing frame section pivotally floats relative to the center frame section during movement across an agricultural field in a forward working direction.
