Methods of Using Composite Materials to Prepare Foods
20170265502 · 2017-09-21 ·

A composite material for food contact applications includes an absorbent layer and a non-absorbent layer, the absorbent layer having a textured surface for absorbing and trapping liquids, for example, oil, grease, or water, and the non-absorbent layer having an oleophobic surface that acts as an oil and grease specific liquid barrier. The material further includes one or more lamination layers. The lamination layer acts as a general liquid barrier between the absorbent layer and non-absorbent layer. This additional liquid barrier enhances the liquid repelling effect of the non-absorbent layer to more effectively trap liquids in the absorbent layer, thereby preventing liquids from seeping through the material onto an external surface.

Persistent, targeted, optimized, soil amendment composition and method

A material for optimizing and maintaining at least one of water, nutrients, biocides, and other protectant or growth supporting chemicals in natural soils by decreasing leaching, evaporation, and volatility through application of agglomerated granules (prills) formed of engineered hydrating particles, a binder, nutrients, and protectants to the soil. Typical application is by applying prills simultaneously with seeds when drilled, broadcast, or otherwise distributed.

GROWING MEDIA FOR PLANTS

The present disclosure describes a hydroponic system. The hydroponic system can include a pad medium that includes a plurality of seeds. The pad medium can be supported over a water vessel by a support medium. The system can also include a first nutrient strip that can be coupled to the pad medium, support medium, or vessel. The nutrient strip can include a first nutrient pad that is impregnated with nutrients. The nutrient strip can also include a barrier layer that at least partially encloses the nutrient pad. The barrier layer can include an opening to expose the nutrient pad to an external environment. A shape of the nutrient pad and a shape of the opening can be configured to control a rate of release of nutrients from the nutrient strip.

ENCAPSULATED SEED PLANTING DEVICE

An encapsulated seed planting device for planting a seed that is encapsulated in a water soluble cover. The encapsulated seed planting device comprises a frame and a support device for supporting the frame above a surface. A planting unit is provided that comprises a cartridge for receiving the seed. A compression device is coupled to the cartridge for holding the seed. A piston is positioned in a facing relationship with the cartridge. The piston is configured to push the seed out of the cartridge and into the surface. A cylinder is positioned in a facing relationship with the piston. The cylinder is configured to move the piston. A control device is provided for controlling operation of the cylinder.

SEED-CONTAINING CRAYON
20170107392 · 2017-04-20 ·

A seed-containing crayon is presented. The crayon includes an elongated member formed of a marking composition to leave a colored mark on a surface when the elongated member contacts the surface. The marking composition is formed of a wax, a pigment, and a plant nutrient that is activated by application of water to the elongated member. Plant seeds are embedded in the marking composition of the elongated member. The crayon can include a paper band that at least partially surrounds the elongated member along at least part of the length of the elongated member in which the plant seeds are embedded.
