According to an embodiment, a method of bonding an injection molded plastic to a glass substrate is disclosed. The method includes applying a silica coating to a surface of the glass substrate; injection-molding a plastic substrate, modified with a silane coupling agent, on to the glass substrate to adhere the plastic substrate to the surface; and curing the plastic substrate to covalently bond the silane coupling agent to the silica coating.

The subject invention includes a fixed window assembly for a vehicle comprising a fixed glass, a trim portion having a polymeric base and a decorative member bonded to the polymeric base. An encapsulation is coupled to the fixed glass and the polymeric base to mount the trim portion in a spaced and adjacent position relative to the fixed glass. A method of manufacturing is also provided using first and second molding apparatuses. Polymeric material is injected into a first mold cavity of the first molding apparatus to form the polymeric base bonded to the decorative member. Polymeric material is injected into a second mold cavity of the second molding apparatus to form the encapsulation coupled to the fixed glass and simultaneously coupled to the polymeric base to mount the trim portion in an adjacent position to the fixed glass.

Rear quarter glass has a glass plate, a plastic molding, and a metal molding. A retainer is arranged between the plastic molding and the metal molding. The retainer has a first through-hole and a pin portion. The metal molding has a projecting portion that is inserted through the first through-hole. The projecting portion has an end section that projects from the first through-hole in a state inserted through the first through-hole. The plastic molding has a second through-hole through which the pin portion is inserted. The pin portion has an end section that projects from the second through-hole in a state inserted through the second through-hole. The end section of the projecting portion is swaged to the retainer by swaging through thermal deformation. The end section of the pin portion is swaged to the plastic molding by swaging through thermal deformation.
