METHODS AND SYSTEM FOR MIXING AND DISPENSING VISCOUS MATERIALS FOR THE CREATION OF ADDITIVE STRUCTURES
20210016237 · 2021-01-21 ·

Various methods and systems are provided for mixing and dispensing viscous materials for the creation of additive structures. As one example, in a multi-dimensional printing apparatus, one or more materials flow into a mixing chamber via one or more corresponding inlet channels, a rotational speed of a mixing rod positioned within a mixing chamber is adjusted based on a volume of the mixing chamber and a flow rate of the one or more materials into the mixing chamber, the mixing rod including a set of straight cutaways extending along a length of a bottom portion of the mixing rod and forming flat side surfaces of the mixing rod; and a mixture of the one or more materials is dispensed from the mixing chamber via a dispensing nozzle of a mixing and dispensing head.

Method of printing parts in a layerwise manner with one or more internal woven panels under tension
10889044 · 2021-01-12 · ·

A method of producing a part printed in a layer-wise manner includes providing a pre-fabricated starter piece with a first course of loops and printing a layer of a part by extruding one or more flowable thermoplastic materials about the existing course of loops such that an upper surface of the layer is at a selected height on the existing course of loops. The method includes knitting a next course of loops to the existing course of loops to form a portion of an internal woven reinforcement network, and printing a next layer of the part by extruding one or more flowable thermoplastic materials about the next course of loops such that an upper surface of the next layer is at a selected height on the next course of loops, wherein the next course of loops extends above the structure being printed and may function as an existing course of loops for subsequent knitting steps. The method includes repeating the knitting and printing steps to create an internal woven reinforcement network within the printed part until the part is completed. The starter piece and the course of loops extending from the second end of the completed part are engaged and heated to a temperature where the material is flowable. The reinforcement network is then placed into tension by applying a force to pull the starter piece and the course of loops in opposite directions from each other. The part is cooled to a temperature where the thermoplastic material solidifies such that the internal woven structure remains in tension.

Sheet extrusion die

An extrusion die includes a plurality of studs, a tuning assembly and a restrictor member. The tuning assembly comprises a wedge member, first and second adjustment members, and an adjustment control having a rotatable single point adjustment member. The wedge member is coupled to first ends of the studs and includes a first and second plurality of channels within. The first and second adjustment members have a plurality of protrusions, each of which is positioned within a respective one of the first and second plurality of channels. The restrictor member extends in the longitudinal direction and is coupled to second ends of the studs. Rotation of the single point adjustment causes each of the protrusions to move within each respective channel forcing the wedge member, the studs, and the restrictor member to move in a direction that is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.

Film with layered segments and apparatus and method for making the same

A film having first segments and second segments arranged across the film's width direction is disclosed. The first and second segments are separated from each other by polymer interfaces. The first segments include a first polymeric composition and the second segments include a second polymeric composition. At least some of the second segments are layered second segments having first and second layers in the film's thickness direction, and one of the first or second layers includes a third polymeric composition different from the second polymeric composition. An extrusion die useful for making the film and a method for making the film using the extrusion die are also disclosed.

PIN CAM DEFLECTOR NUT

The present disclosure generally relates to extrusion die systems. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a specialty pin cam nut designed for the ease of assembly and disassembly of extrusion dies.

System and method for adjusting the land channel length on an extrusion die

An extrusion die with adjustable land channel can be formed of a die body that includes a first die body portion and a second die body portion, a first lip body, a second lip body, and a land channel body. The extrusion die can have a flow channel that includes a land channel terminating in an outlet orifice. The flow channel may be bound on one side by the first die body portion, the land channel body, and the first lip body. The flow channel may be bound on an opposite side by the second die body portion and the second lip body. In some examples, the length of the land channel is adjustable by configuring the land channel body and/or first lip body to move across the width of the flow channel.

LAMINATION FORMING SYSTEM

A lamination forming system includes a melt extruder, a nozzle head and a carrier unit. The melt extruder is configured to melt a plastic raw material into a plastic melt and to deliver the same. The nozzle head includes a sprue channel that has an inlet connected to the melt extruder for entry of the melt plastic into the sprue channel, and an outlet disposed distally from the inlet to deliver the plastic melt from the sprue channel. The carrier unit includes a slide table controllable to move relative to the nozzle head. The slide table is configure to carry the plastic melt outputted from the nozzle head.
