Method of generating codes for animal marking
A method of generating animal identification codes is described. A first and second number are selected, then each number is compared respectively against previously used first and previously used second numbers in a pool. Such comparing uses a computed distance based on how the numbers will be encoded and marked on an animal, such as a Hamming distance of printed symbologies. If the distance computed for either the first or second number is below a distance threshold, that number is discarded and another number is selected. When both numbers pass the distance test, they are added as a pair into the pool. Pairs from the pool may be encoded and marked on an animal. The encoding of the first number may generate a human-readable mark while a different encoding of the second number generates a machine-readable mark.
Marker Capsule for Drug Delivery Dart
A marker capsule for a drug delivery dart that marks a animal upon impact to indicate it has had a drug injection. The marker capsule is formed of a rupturable material, and has a central aperture formed therethrough for disposition about a cannula extending from the drug delivery dart. A marking substance is contained within the capsule. The capsule ruptures between the dart body and the animal upon impact to thereby disperse said marking substance upon the animal about the area of the impact.
NEEDLE MODULE FOR A DRIVE-CONTROLLED APPARATUS FOR REPEATEDLY PIERCING HUMAN OR ANIMAL SKIN, AND HANDHELD UNIT
A needle module for a drive-controlled handheld unit for repeatedly piercing human or animal skin, comprising a housing; a needle holder, which can be moved back and forth in the housing in a longitudinal direction of the housing; a piercing device on the needle holder, which can be moved, on account of the movement of the needle holder, between a proximal and a distal position, in which a piercing tip of the piercing device is arranged outside the housing; a coupling component, which is coupled to the needle holder in such a way that a driving movement provided with a repetition frequency by a drive device that can be coupled to the coupling component can be introduced onto the needle holder; and a damping component, which is arranged between the needle holder and the coupling component and is configured to damp a transfer of force therebetween.

METHOD FOR TAGGING INSECTS AND ARTHROPODS
Disclosed is an apparatus and associated method for tagging insects and arthropods. According to an exemplary embodiment of this disclosure, an electrosprayer is provided including a nozzle cartridge, a spray chamber removably attached to the nozzle cartridge and a power supply operatively connected to the nozzle cartridge and a grounding plate within the spray chamber to electrically charge droplets expelled from the nozzle which coat one or more insects contained in the spray chamber.
SURGICAL TISSUE MARKING DEVICE WITH DRYER
A marking/drying tool applies ink to biological tissue using a single handheld device. A cylindrical body retains a felt tip movable between a retracted position within the body and an extended position outside the body for marking the tissue. A gas source has a manual valve to selectably dispensing a drying gas onto the tissue. In a preferred embodiment, an interlock prevents dispensing of drying gas when the tip is in the extended position and prevents the tip moving to the extended position when the manual valve is dispensing the drying gas.
ANIMAL IDENTIFICATION THROUGH ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT-REACTIVE TATTOO
Improved animal identification using light-reactive ink. An embodiment comprises: causing a pattern of holes to be formed in a portion of a body of an animal; and introducing light-reactive ink into the holes, thereby forming an identifying mark in the portion as a tattoo, the ink being reactive to ultraviolet light such that the identifying mark becomes viewable in response to introduction of ultraviolet light. Introducing an ultraviolet light source in a vicinity of the portion of the body causes the identifying mark to luminesce and thus be visible by a human. The light-reactive ink may contain fluorescent or phosphorescent dye. The portion of the body may be an inner ear of the animal. A color of the ink may substantially match a color of the inner ear of the animal and upon introduction of the ultraviolet light, may have a color different from the color of the inner ear.
Handheld device for repeated puncture of human or animal skin
A handheld device for repeated local puncture of human or animal skin, comprising a housing having a handle, a drive device in the housing supplied with a rotating movement about an axis of rotation by a driveshaft, a conversion mechanism coupled to the driveshaft to convert rotating movement into a driving movement along a driving movement direction, and a puncture device which is arranged in the housing and as a puncture needle, which is arranged on a needle shaft that can be moved back and forth repeatedly along a path of movement together with the puncture needle and is connected to the conversion mechanism, wherein the conversion mechanism has a rod crank device, and the stroke executed by the puncture element in moving back and forth is adjustable by altering a relative position between an axial direction of the axis of rotation and the direction of the driving movement.
Animal marking devices, transfer assemblies, and useful restraints
Described herein is a marking system for marking animals. The marking system may include a restraining device, a controller, and a marking device. The marking device includes a marking needle of fixed length comprising one or a plurality of needle tips; the restraining device is sized and configured for restraining an animal or animal body part thereof and oriented such that the marking device can make a mark on a substrate portion of the animal body part; and the controller is configured to control the position of the marking device and to make a mark on the substrate portion of the animal body part. Also described herein are media transfer assemblies for use in the disclosed marking system.
