THERMOPLASTIC WELDING TOOLING AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
A thermoplastic welding assembly includes a structural cage that supports a press and one or more hydraulic and pneumatic actuators. The press includes first and second plates that movable toward and away from each other to load and remove thermoplastic components to be held together for thermoplastic welding. Specifically, the first plate of the press includes non-conductive tooling inserts that are positioned to form a slot for a welding prove, and the second plates includes non-conductive tooling inserts that form cavities for plungers to move through. Plungers that are movable using the actuators are positioned in the cavities of the second plate, and compressible pressurizers are attached to the ends of the plungers. An operator uses electrical controls to move the plungers in the plunger cavities toward the thermoplastic components in the press to drive the pressurizers into the thermoplastic components and provide stabilizing pressure on the components during welding.
System and method for thermoplastic welding using an induced thermal gradient
A system and method for thermoplastic composite welding comprising a cooling means and a heat source. The cooling means cools a heat-side laminate so as to create a thermal gradient in the heat-side laminate. The heat source heats the heat-side laminate after the cooling step is initiated but before the thermal gradient dissipates so that a first side of the heat-side laminate closer to the heat source does not deform as faying surfaces of the heat-side laminate and another laminate farther away from the heat source are welded together.
HYBRID COMPOSITE MATERIAL BETWEEN A METAL SURFACE AND A POLYMERIC MATERIAL SURFACE AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE HYBRID COMPOSITE MATERIAL
The invention is a hybrid composite material between a first joining partner having a metal surface and a second joining partner having a polymeric material surface. A process for producing a hybrid composite material associated therewith is also described. The hybrid composite material according to the invention is characterized in that the metal surface has microstructured depressions, having a diameter and a structure depth in the micrometer range, the microstructured depressions have metallic surface regions which are furnished entirely with nanostructures, the structure dimensions of which are in the nanometer range, the microstructured depressions are blind holes or throughhole openings fully passing through the first joining partner.
INDUCTION WELD JOINT FOR AN ENCLOSURE
The present disclosure relates to a housing having an interior and an exterior. The housing includes a first housing piece and a second housing piece that are coupled together by a joint. The joint includes a bonding material and the joint is configured such that when the bonding material is pressurized during formation of the joint the bonding material is predisposed to move toward the interior of the housing as compared to the exterior of the housing.
Lid for a metal can, comprising a metal ring and a peelable, heat-sealed membrane
A lid suitable for closing a metal can includes a metal ring onto which a peelable membrane is sealed. An inner annular part of the metal ring is equipped with a roll defining an annular space therebetween. The first connection portion of the roll and the second connection portion of the inner annular part opposite are sealed to one another by element of a heat-sealing material to form a seal sealing the annular space so at to protect the free edge of the roll. The invention also relates to a method for producing such a lid.
APPARATUS FOR QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF A SEALING SECTION OF A PACKAGE FOR FOOD PRODUCTS, AND A METHOD THEREOF
An apparatus for quality assessment of a sealing section of a package for food products. The package comprises at least a robustness layer and a plastic layer. The sealing section is formed by holding a first section and a second section of the package against each other while providing heat such that the plastic layer of the first and second section melt and thereby provide for that the first and second section adhere to each other. The apparatus comprises a sample holder arranged for fixating a sample comprising the sealing section of the package, wherein at least part of the sample holder is transparent, a magnification device arranged on a first side of the sample holder, and an illumination device arranged on a second side of the sample holder, such that light is provided to the magnification device through the sample holder, wherein the first and second side are opposite sides of the sample holder.
AUTOMATED CABLE TIE INSTALLATION TOOL WITH INDUCTION WELDING JOINING MECHANISM
A system includes a body having a pair of cable jaws. The pair of cable jaws further includes a dispensing track on an inner circumference of the pair of cable jaws to retain a segment of a thermoplastic cable material. The system includes a piston. The piston is configured to secure an overlapping segment of the thermoplastic cable material at the weld area. An induction coil is configured to apply an electromagnetic field. The system includes a power supply.
Fastening method and fastening apparatus
In a fastening method and fastening apparatus, workpieces are fastened using a fastener made of a thermoplastic polymer comprising carbon fibers. The method and apparatus involve induction heating of the carbon fibers to soften the thermoplastic polymer and then plastically deforming axial ends of the fastener using a die or dies to form first and second heads while a shaft body or a shaft part of the thermoplastic polymer comprising the carbon fibers is inserted through respective through holes formed in the workpieces.
Tooling for use in a method for electromagnetic welding of molded parts, and method for manufacturing the tooling
A tooling for use in a method for electromagnetic welding of two contacted surfaces of molded parts. The tooling includes a rubber body and pressurizing means for pressurizing the rubber body and applying pressure to the contacted surfaces. The rubber body includes an embedded stiff body shaped such as to define different rubber body thicknesses in different directions, which causes a different pressure build-up in the different directions. A method for manufacturing the tooling. The tooling may be used in electromagnetic welding of two contacted surfaces of molded parts by moving a joining inductor along the contacted surfaces, generating an electromagnetic field in an induction-sensitive component of the molded parts to heat a thermally activated coupling means of the molded parts to above a melting temperature of the coupling means.
Methods of embedding an elongate susceptor within a thermoplastic body
Methods of embedding an elongate susceptor within a thermoplastic body and systems that perform the methods are disclosed herein. The methods include extending the elongate susceptor such that an extended portion of the elongate susceptor extends between a guide structure and a body-contacting structure. The methods also include heating a segment of the elongate susceptor to produce a heated portion of the elongate susceptor. The methods further include pressing a leading region of the heated portion of the elongate susceptor through a body surface of the thermoplastic body and into the thermoplastic body.
