Device, system and methods for tracking animals
Disclosed are a device, system and method for animal tracking. The tracking device comprises a tracker processing component, an energy component, a transmitting component, and a securing component. The system comprises the tracking device, a receiving device and a server. The method comprising securing the tracking device to an animal, transmitting an identification of the animal, receiving the transmission via the receiving device, modifying it and forwarding it to the server, where the modified transmission is logged and analyzed to determine animal positions.
A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING THE IDENTITY OF AN ANIMAL OF A HERD OF ANIMALS
A rotary milking platform (3) comprises a plurality of stalls (5) and an RFID animal identifying system (9) for identifying animals entering the stalls (5) of the platform (3). A microprocessor (14) reads signals from an image capturing device (15) and computes a feature vector from the captured image of each animal. A plurality of reference feature vectors comprising respective matrices of metrics already derived from images of the respective animals captured by the image capturing device (15) are stored and cross-referenced with the identity of the respective animals. The microprocessor (14) compares computed feature vectors of each animal with the stored reference feature vectors until a best match has been determined with one of the reference feature vectors. The identity of the animal of that matching reference feature vector is then determined as the identity of the animal of that computed feature vector. The determined identity of the animal in the relevant stall (5) is compared with the identity of the animal determined for that stall (5) by the RFID system (9). On a favourable comparison the identity of the animal determined from the captured image of that animal is confirmed as the identity of the animal. In the event of a conflict between the two identities being determined, a conflict alert signal is produced.
RFID TAG INSERTION CARTRIDGE
A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag insertion cartridge configured for use in implanting a flexible RFID tag into a small animal using a needle-retraction implant tool. In embodiments, the cartridge includes a cartridge housing and a bevel cap. In embodiments, the cartridge housing is configured to receive a carriage portion inserted into a first end of the cartridge housing with a retractable needle extended out of a second end of the carriage portion to present the retractable needle in an extended position with the RFID tag carried within the retractable needle. In embodiments, the bevel cap has a proximal portion with a mating feature configured to mate with the cartridge housing and one or more needle capture elements configured to selectively couple to the needle in the extended position in a side-mountable manner without a direct axial force being exerted on the needle.
IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION READOUT APPARATUS, METHOD, PROGRAM, RECORDING MEDIUM, AND MEASURING SYSTEM
According to the present invention, an identification information readout apparatus includes an identification information readout section, a somatic cell concentration measuring section, and a measurement result recording section. The identification information readout section reads cow identification information out of a recording medium with the cow identification information recorded therein. The somatic cell concentration measuring section measures the somatic cell concentration of milk obtained from a cow. The measurement result recording section records the somatic cell concentration and the cow identification information in association with each other. The recording medium is attached to the cow.
Veterinary Thermometer and Method of Managing Animal Health Considering Ambient Temperature and Humidity Conditions
The invention includes a wireless multifunction veterinary thermometer device that communicates with a mobile communication device running an app for recording animal temperature data and to display animal treatment options considering the recorded data and ambient weather conditions. Treatment options may be determined by logic programmed within the app or by another computer program associated with a remote server and database. Data transfer takes place between the mobile device and the remote server/database. A heat stress indicator is displayed for the user. If the indicator represents a high heat stress level, the app logic or remote computer program may automatically generate a recommended treatment option, or the user may determine an appropriate treatment.
Data management systems and methods
A system for integrating at least one object with an animal within a research facility comprises at least one animal within the research facility, the at least one animal having a first tag associated therewith that is configured to communicate with a data management system. The system further includes at least one laboratory object having a second tag associated therewith and being associated with the at least one animal, the second tag being configured to communicate with the data management system. Still further, the system includes at least one technician badge having a third tag associated therewith, the badge configured to communicate with the data management system. The at least one animal, the at least one laboratory object, and the at least one technician badge are configured to transmit information to the data management system.
Methods for attaching transmitters to animals
Methods for attaching a radio frequency (RF) transmitter to an animal are provided. The methods can include providing an RF transmitter and providing an injection device having a needle of gauge of 9 or smaller; providing the RF transmitter into the injection device; and providing the RF transmitter through the 9 gauge or smaller needle and into the animal.
Implantable passive RFID tag
An improved passive RFID tag configured for needle implantation in a tail of a rodent using a small diameter needle provides for increased read distances and effectiveness. In various embodiments, the RFID tag is comprised of an elongated flexible substrate having a pair of opposed surfaces with a UHF RFID chip positioned on a first of the opposed surfaces and is directly electrically connected to a closed-loop multi-layer folded dipole antenna disposed on both of the opposed surfaces of the substrate. An antenna is electrically connected to the RFID chip and includes at least an inductor as part of the closed-loop antenna. In embodiments, the RFID tag can be read with at least 90 percent effectiveness by a 30 dB RFID tag reader at least 5 cm from a tail of the rodent.
Animal handling device
Described herein is an animal handling device in the form of a cattle crush with automated headbail capture, back bar operation and positional sensing along with methods of use thereof. The crush and method offer automation for functions that in the art have been largely manual and inherently labour intensive, physical and even potentially dangerous for the operator and/or animal.
Computerized estimation of minimum number of sonic sources using maximum matching of a bipartite graph
A computerized machine (a) determines temporal and spatial confidence intervals for each one of plural sonic events, (b) classifies pairings among the sonic events as either comparable or non-comparable, and (c) estimates a minimum number of sonic sources, some of which are in motion, that could have produced or generated the sonic events. Sonic event times and positions are characterized by corresponding temporal and spatial confidence intervals. A pairing of sonic events is classified as comparable only when that pairing meets one or more preselected constraints, some of which depend on the temporal and spatial confidence intervals. The estimated minimum number of sonic sources is equal to the total number of sonic events minus the cardinality of a maximum matching of a bipartite graph derived from the classifications of the pairings and a chronological ordering of the set of sonic events.
