METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR WELDING A THERMOSET OBJECT TO A FURTHER OBJECT VIA THERMOPLASTIC OUTER LAYERS
A method and an apparatus for welding a first object to a second object, wherein the first object is produced from a thermoset and comprises a thermoplastic material outer layer, wherein the second object comprises at least one thermoplastic material outer layer. In addition, a layer of carbon nanotubes is applied to the thermoplastic material outer layer of the first object, and the second object is placed onto the first object. At least some of the thermoplastic material outer layer of the second object lies atop the applied layer of carbon nanotubes. In addition, a potential is applied to the layer of carbon nanotubes, such that an electrical current flows through the carbon nanotubes, wherein the thermoplastic material outer layer of the first object and the thermoplastic material outer layer of the second object are heated and are welded to one another.

The present embodiments are related to a device for hot riveting by using a stud. The device may have a docking surface for the docking against a workpiece and a recess section for the shaping of a sealing head of the plastic stud. The recess section may include a cavity corresponding to the docking surface with a first depth. The device may have a compensation section arranged adjacent to the recess section, the compensation section configured to form an edge section of the plastic stud by accommodating displaced material from the sealing head of the plastic stud. The compensation section may have a second depth in relation to the docking surface, the second depth being less than the first depth.
System and method for assembling vehicle components with reinforced moldable rivet
A system for assembling vehicle components includes a die assembly securing first and second vehicle components having first and second apertures, respectively. The die assembly positions the first and second vehicle components with the first and second apertures overlapping, and at least one of the first and second vehicle components including a polymeric material. The system further includes a joining component extending through the first and second apertures. The die assembly supports the joining component, and the joining component including a support shank and a moldable body at least partially encasing the support shank. The system also includes a punch member selectively engaging and deforming the moldable body of the joining component. The die assembly guides the moldable body into engagement with the first and second vehicle components, and the die assembly locates the support shank within at least one of the first and second apertures.
RECEPTACLE ASSEMBLY FOR A FASTENER IN FILAMENT MESH STRUCTURE
A body of extruded polymer fibers formed and welded together in a three-dimensional shape with a fastener comprising a stake inserted into the body. The stake comprises a head that secures the fastener to the body. The body comprises extruded polymer filaments randomly oriented and bonded together to form a three-dimensional mesh structure. The polymer stake extends from a plate through a first side toward a second side of the body to a location on the surface of the body or a location within the body. A portion of the filaments is disposed between the first side of the body and the head. A method of attaching the fastener to the body comprises inserting the stake, forming the head, and attaching the head to the body.
Method of joining multiple components and an assembly thereof
A method of joining multiple components is disclosed. The method includes arranging a first component having a first surface, an opposing second surface, and a feature, in contact with a second component having a first surface, an opposing second surface, and defining an aperture. When so arranged, the first surface of the first component is adjacent to the second surface of the second component. The method also includes positioning a fastener on the first surface of the second component and in contact with the feature of the first component, such that at least a portion of the fastener overlaps the aperture on the first surface of the second component. The method additionally includes abutting and fusing the fastener to the feature of the first component to thereby affix the first component to the second component.

A method for locating a material having thermoplastic properties in pores of bone tissue includes providing a pin having the material having thermoplastic properties and a core, wherein the material having thermoplastic properties is arranged on the circumferential surface of the core constituting an outer region of the pin. An opening is provided in the bone tissue, and the pin is positioned at least partly in the opening. The outer region of the pin is then impinged with mechanical vibration energy for a time sufficient for liquefying at least part of the material having thermoplastic properties, and, in a liquefied state, pressing it into the pores of the bone tissue surrounding the opening. The vibration energy is stopped for a time sufficient for re-solidification of the liquefied material, and then the core is removed.

Apparatus configured to enable the staking of an interfacing part to a base is provided. The apparatus includes a retainer configured to convey a stake and the interfacing part to the base. The apparatus is further configured to provide a heat and/or vibration to effect the simultaneous attachment of the stake to the base and the interfacing part to the base.
